I'm on the board at my condo association and we're having a problem with people running into our gates then driving away. Each time the gates are hit it costs $1,000 to $2,000 in repairs, depending on how hard they're hit. Of course the drivers don't stick around and the community gets stuck with the bill. It was suggested that we get camera systems so we can see license plates and a description of the car. We have two gates on either side of the property and each gate a has a small building between the in and out gates. Our clubhouse is somewhat centrally located about 150 yards from one gate and about 250 yards from the other gate. We would prefer to keep te DVR system in the clubhouse where the internet connection is or at least get live feed from the DVR without running an internet connection to each gate building. What's out there to transmit this much data with decent quality up tp 300 yards? I have about a 2K budget for the cameras, DVR, and connection to the clubhouse. Probably need 4 cameras per gate.

I would remove the gates my self.   They are just another example of "Feel Good" but worthless security.

Some outdoor cameras with MJPEG streams, and a Linux server running "motion".

Wifi is a possibility, with a small amount of extra work.

Heavier gates, then they can't drive away after hitting them.

Your best bet would be PM'ing TheGrayMan, or read some of his threads here.

Spikes on the gates, so it's easy to see whose car was involved.

Before they were installed people used the complex as cut through at about 50 MPH.
They reduce cut through and slow people down.

IP cameras and extended range wireless setups?

If you were a ham I'd say something like HSMM-MESH since the nodes can pass traffic down the line to the network.

Speed bumps and/or serpentine are the answer you seek.
