Ok I've finally broke down and decided to get a digital camera.

I want to spend $200-$300.

I was thinking waterproof would be nice, but I think you pay a lot more for that.

It needs to be small to fit in a jeans pocket (think wallet sized) and durable.

I'm not really sure what else to look for in a camera.

Boy, you've sure left a lot of open territory on that one. I have a Sony DSC-P100, and it's a pretty good little camera; takes good pictures, the video quality is better than a lot of other cameras, but for good quality video you need a shitload of memory. For example, a 1GB memory stick gives you all of 12.5 minutes of video time.

This site goes into more detail in its' reviews than you will probably need, but it's a great place to do some window-shopping.

Canon Powershot 450

I found that one. I like Costco's warranty options. It seems pretty compact, looks like it has a pretty good video function. How long can I expect the battery to last? What size/how many memory sticks should I get?

Nikon Coolpix S6. while not waterproof it's small, and takes awesome pics.

oops...misread your post, sorry.

Edit (again): The link doesn't work, but Canon makes pretty good stuff. Personally, I'd go with as much memory as you can afford, so as to not have to carry around a bunch of whatever type your camera takes; the little buggers are pretty small, and could be easily lost.

Another recommendation for Canon, I have a three year old Powershot A80. Great pics, easy to use. I'm looking into another Canon with a bigger screen.
