I have a generac 7550 watt and a porter cable 5500 watt generators.

Can I run them and tie the load side together or will they be out of sync and burn up?

If out of sync how can I sync them together?

They have to be synced.  Here is a write up explaining why and a simple method to do it.

I'm not an electrician, but i'd say thats a bad idea.  The two AC signals would be messy if combined, if they even do.

Is that a General 7550exl?   I have one.  Good generator.

To parallel generators you need to put one online and have the other match voltage and frequency and then close to them together.

In addition, once they are electrically tied together you need to have a bias signal between the governors so they can share load and a separate bias signal for the voltage regulator to control vars.

I would not advise it on these smaller units as they really are not designed for this operation and the controls required are not really practical for these size units.

The governor and regulators probably don't have bias anyway.

You can tie them together, but getting them to stay together is another matter.

That being said, I think Honda offers units with control built in that are designed to parallel and are tied together via a control wire.

I have 20+ years backup power generation experience.   Cat, Cummins, Kohler, MTU, Generac, etc  I have dealt with all of them.

You could convert it all to DC and then switch it back to AC.

Not an expert but twinning two different brands with different  kva might prove difficult

You would never get the full use of the larger one

Wouldn't it be easier to just pay your electricity bill?

Yea , generac 7550 exl 13500 surge, electric start (needs new battery).

Runs good after not running g for over 2 years. It was my dads, and I got it when he passed away last year.

Why would I do that?

Being a lineman we have ways around that BS .

Hahaha jk. Well mostly ....

Well now I understand the concept is about the same as when I phase two transformers at work . Only thing is they are both powered from the same generator.

With two power sources would be a little different.

Well it was just a thought I had.

Thanks.

Yeah it is a good generator.  You can get parts for it no problem.  I have had mine for 10+ years.
