I bought an M1 Garand through a dealer. It was a CMP rifle, but I did not acquire it through CMP. I have my C&R license. I understand that if you acquire an M1 through the CMP you must log it in your log book. In my case, do I need to log it?

Also, I had a Mosin-Nagant before I had my C&R license. Do I need to log that?

Even though you technically don't need to log the Mosin I'd still put it into the book just to be on the safe side. In fact, it would be best to log any C&R firearms that you have in the house just in case you get an audit from the ATF. I'd hate to see you lose your lic. just because a firearm that was C&R wasn't in the book.  You can also check the books that were sent to you, they've got quite a bit of good info in them or give the ATF a call, I've found them to be fairly nice people to deal with over the phone whenever I've had a question.

No, you don't "need" to log the Mosin, but I'd do it anyway.

I have any / all C&R's logged, just to be safe. No big deal, helps me keep track of what I've got anyway..

log the M1, not required on the Nagant unless you sell it while your C&R is active.
However as a CYA I would log the Nagant as well, keep in mind if and when you get an audit, they may ask to see just the books, or the books and the guns.  I logged all my old C&R eligable guns after I got my license just meerly as a CYA, it won't hurt to.

Garand: Yes (just entered mine)
Mosin: Technically, no.

I'm with heysoos. I log everything that is
a C&R. It is just an easy CYA.

I put mine in the book whenver my C&R FFL is used to make the purchase.

It is what the BATF says to do so I just follow their rules. If it is in the book and I didn't use a C&R to purchase it what happens if they contact that person/dealer and they don't have your C&R on file?

The way I understand it, you are supposed to put anything you use your C&R licsense to aquire, in your Collector Record Book.  Anything else, even if it is a C&R class firearm, does not go in your collector record book.

I bought the RK Enterprises kit and it comes with a C&R Collector Record Book and a Personal Firearms Record Book you can use to keep track of the other stuff.

According to the ATF, every C&R
has to be logged reguardless of whether
you used your license or not (after you
have become a licensee).

See 27CFR 178.125(f).

Naw… if you get an ATF audit they don’t search the house there is NO requirement to long ANYTHING you owned before you got the C&R unless you sell it while you have a C&R. If you do sell the gun then log it in as from your personal collection.

If they do an audit pull out the relevant guns and leave the Mosin in the safe.

I have all my C&R’s in my book, in the acquired from column, I list it as possessed before lic.
BATFE had a table at a Fun Show a while back and I did ask them about it, he said that was ok to do, even gave me his card and said to call him if anyone questioned it.

I've got everything (C&R and nonC&R) logged in my books that are kept in a separate safe away from the gunsafe. I just feel alittle better doing it that way just incase some asshat breaks into my house and somehouse gets away with stealin a few guns. Then I know what the serials and all the other info.
