Ive got 10 yr old boxer that is the best  dog I've ever owned. Super smart, very obedient, gentle w/ my kids, fierce protector  and all around great companion.  I would like to add another dog to the family at some point and have been looking at some options including another boxer.  I saw a photo of a beautiful blk Cane Corso that piqued my interest. Does anyone here have direct experience with this breed?  I can read plenty of pages about them but looking for some personal experience.

People will call it a pit bull and demand it to be shot on sight

My friend used to breed them.  He currently only has two.  I got to know them quite well in Okinawa.  I WILL own one.

If you don't crop the ears, they look like any other run of the mill mastiff.

Have a 5 yr. old female. Very sweet personality but sheds horribly. Leaves large piles in the yard 5 times a day to clean up. You won't have to worry about intruders. Takes a firm hand.

My aunt and her husband had raised various large breeds over the years:

Neapolitan mastiffs
Old english mastiffs
Bullmastiffs
dogue de bordeaux's
Leonberger's
Newfoundlands
Rottweilers
Bull terriers
Akitas

This list covers a span of 30 years.  They probably sound like a puppy mill, but they actually did take really good care of their dogs.

Any adults they picked up at auctions were like used as breeding machines before they got them.  Totally not socialized, and some were downright scarey to be around.

Anyway, some of the neo's they got in had their ears cropped already.  Totally, totally! Changes the look of the dog.

Ears cropped, they look friendlier.  Ears cropped, they 'll get mistaken for a pit bull.

My aunt and her husband would carefully screen all their buyers, but even moreso with the neo's.  Lots of gangsta wannabe's would call them up out of the blue.  Two or three questions in, my aunt would have them pegged and give them the brush off.  Somehow she was also able to do credit checks on prospective buyers.

So don't be surprised if a legit Cane Corso breeder checks you out pretty good first.

I have a 7 month old Cane Corso, I'll get some pics up. He's a good dude.

Even as a young male he's very even tempered around the house. He's very gentle around my two girls and listens well.

You have to make sure and take alpha status or else the dog will try and run the show. Set boundaries and establish dominance asap.

At 7 months Friendo "Doh" is 80lbs and insanely strong. I take him for 2-3 miles runs daily and he comes back for more. If you're not a psychically strong person I would not recommend the breed.

Outside the home he seems to have a creeper meter. Some folks he won't pay any attention to and some folks he plan does not like. I'm working on this behavior quirk. I would not want to be an intruder in the godrilla household.

Go to pet forum and take a look.  I recall seeing a fair amount of people posting pictures of Cane Corso and Presa De Canario (which look too similar in my eyes to tell apart.) Then you can ask current, active owners questions directly.  Also, check out the boerboel breed, it is similar to the Cane Corso and Canario

My parents have one.

Awesome dog, very protective, and the only dog I've ever seen that is scared of a trashcan. However, he would be the last dog I'd want to piss off.
