Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to set up a cane pole for fishing? I have heard to tie the fishing line around the base and thread it through the eyehole at the tip of the rod, but I was wondering if anyone could get a little more descriptive about it (i.e. knot style? im not sure what knot to use for tying the line at the base). Also, do i tie the line to the eyehole at the tip? or just thread it through and leave it unsecured?

Thanks for any help!

The only way I know how is if u use a real bamboo pole.  I fished like that often as a kid.  I'd tie the line around the tip and go with it.  If you want you could start at the handle and tie it off.  Then run the line to the tip, wrap a few times and then have your fishing line a foot or so Shorter than the length of the rod. This'll make it easier to swing your line out to fish.

Not sure about knots.  Tie it well at base, then maybe wrap w/ strip of duct tape.

If it has a "eye" at the tip, then tie at the base a few times with a standard knot to keet it secure, the slack in between the tip and the handle will allow you to redneck reel so to speak " handy for bluegill's".

Yep, if there's an eye, tie it at the base. This will allow you to "flip" or "shoot" your bait or lure a few extra feet and also "reel" much like fly fishing. We use cane poles for crappie and bluegill when the spawning beds are pockets in weeds, I've got one that is 18'.
