One of the engineers at work cannot get his tool chest open....

The box has never been locked as it is a "communal" box.  One day he walked up and it just would not open, even tried the key and that did not do jack...

The routine, hitting, kicking, pounding with a hammer in order to get it to open has not solved the issue...

Box is similar to what is show below, only pretty damn heavy duty.  I told the guy I'd post it here, as the hive mind at arfcom can solve almost any problem...

Should have bought Snap-on

-Drill and tap two holes near the sliders
-Insert grease zerk into tapped holes
-Pump full of grease for proper lubrication of stuck latch/sliders

If it is anything like a Snap-On type locking device a piece of 3/16"x3-4"x30ish" can unlock it..

Pry lightly on the top left drawer and slide the stock all the way to the back.. Little lever back there you lift up on and it unlocks the whole deal.

ETA- using this trick on anything but your or someone you knows box will get you shot.. After you are beaten with every wrench and hammer in said box.. Some of us have a lot of wrenches and hammers..

There is likely a mechanism that prevents more than one drawer from opening at once. It is either stuck, or a drawer is not completely closed

The master drawer that controls all the other drawers probably has a tool jammed up in it.

Is the lockset offset to one side of the box?  If so, go to the manufacturer's website.  There is usually a "tool" you can make to unlock the box.

Pro tip:  This isn't the first time this has happened.

You must be one big guy. Unless the box was empty, then it doesn't count.
My old tool box was locked (as usual) forgot key, Drove truck in to front of box, POP and Open.  Since the OP's is a  Homak, 12 oz ball peen, 3/4 flat chisel, place chisel between lock and box. Using accurate blows from the hammer, repeat till lock has sheared off.  Walk down block to local hardware, or big box, store, buy another cheap cabinet lock, replace old one.

You drove a truck, into your tool box?

Does this catch anyone else as

Drill the lock out
Order new one from MSC
Replace old lockid with new one
Profit?

This also sounds like a bad joke.

How many engineers does it take to open a toolbox?

It was that or do a 90 min round trip run for the key. You have your way of doing things i prefer non-traditional when all else fails.
FWIW : That XX drawer craftsman is still in use 40 years later, along with a few newer units.   I also don't care if our kids decide to not have kids, OR marry / live with someone other than their skin color. That should cover most of the bases.

Ive always wanted to know what an AirArc rod @ 500 amps does to a person..

I'm guessing it depends highly on ground clamp placement..
