Hello,
I'm going to be deploying in a bit, and leaving my car at my parents house, where it will be parked in the driveway for approximately a year, exposed to the elements. So I'd like to get a car cover. Are they all the same, are some better than others? The car being covered is a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. Thanks |

Go to a tractor supply shop and get some "anti rodent" bags. I dont know their exact name but they are like a deodorizer that comes in a large tea bag that you put inside of a vehicle that is in storage. They emit a scent that mice and other rodents cant stand thus keeping them away from the vehicle. I would buy a bunch of them and put a couple in the cab, trunk and under the hood.
As far as a cover make sure you spend the money and get a nice one that fits tight and is made of quality materials. The cheaper ones will be looser fitting and will scratch the hell out of your rig along with tearing easily from the UV rays. |

Keep it in a friend's garage? Rent a storage unit? Erect one of those pop up garage thingies? The thing about a car cover is that it's very abrasive to your paint if the vehicle's dirty. Maybe have your folks sell it then buy something else once you get back? Just a few things to think about. |

Unless your car is hermetically sealed, even with a 'water proof' cover, moisture will get between the paint and the cover. This will cause the moisture to get in/under the paint causing it to bubble up and ruin it. You are better off by covering the windows so the sun won't hurt the interior and giving the car a good coat of wax before you leave. Or you could store it in doors. |

Well its going to be stored outside, that's just how it is. I'm really not interested in selling it, though that was initially considered. Not that I have any real attachment to it, but I'm not a car person. It does what I need it to do, and does it well. It's a good car. Plus it gives me something to drive when I come home on leave, and when I get back I'm not rushing out to buy a car and end up with something I really don't want.
So thanks all for the suggestions. |
