Ok guys, Im here looking through all the Garmin nav systems for the car and I was wanting some real world input about their units.

-Which units work real well for city travel, etc
-Is it a problem to update information on the units?

Bestbuy has a couple units on their ad this week and I was looking at the Streetpiolet C550 and the nuvi 660. Anyone have any thoughts on those?
Im looking for voice commands and ease of use as major points, if thast possible

MS Streets & trips on a laptop.  Easiest use, all maps available without having to DL trips.

All GPS units have one major problem in big cities.  Tall buildings can block access to the satelites.  You must be able to read 3 satelites for them to work.  Bear this in mind if you are planning any downtown action.  Suburbs are no problem.  A few "gorges" such as entering NM on 15 will cause intermittent interruption as well as long tunnels.  They will pick up as soon as you are clear.  But, having a lot of skyscrapers around will cause similar problems.

I drive a semi around the country.  It is faster and easier for me to use a laptop.  I keep it on top of my electric cooler that I keep between the seats.  (I happen to have the truck with the widest cab in the industry so it makes this easier).  I can glance over when needed, and instead of looking at a little 4" display, I have 15.4".  Quick easy keyboard input, drag and drop capabilities.  Night time driving mode (black screen, green lines).  In a sports car or if you have some one in the passenger seat in a regular car, it may be a problem.  But IMHO this is the ultimate setup.  Plus, I still have PC capabilities (I am in the truck right now courtesy of wifi) and MS S&T is only $118 at wally world with a USB antenna.

Check this out:

PIONEER AVIC N-3

Don't let the retail scare you. If you would like to find one for $1000 I can point you the right way.

IMHO spend the extra $200-300 and get the DVD/Navi/I-pod/Sat. Radio combo.

You will not ever run out of music.
