I just got a new (to me) 99 dodge ram 1500 and I would like to know where a decent place online to get an inexpensive MP3 capable car stereo and instal/wiring kit for it is. I don't need anything fancy, and I'd like to order from one place in an effort to save a bit on shipping. I like being able to feed it cdw's that I have burned a bunch of music on so I don't have to take a collection of CD's with me on long road trips and fumble with changing out disks and crap. |
| Im gonna be the first to say Check Craigslist, I was looking at a Headunit that originally cost 500 bucks, guy still had all the instructions and everything, wanted 150, this HU was crazy, it even had Pre-out sub controls, but Then I thought, If I cant hear a radio over the motor why spend the money |

Cruthcfield. I recently bought two Blaupunkt Monterey MP35's from them, and actually like them much better than I thought I would. I think I paid about $70 each for them, they didn't come with the wiring kits, but for your vehicle that can be bought at WalMart for about $7. I installed one in a 96 Neon (which uses the same stereo harness as your truck) in about ten minutes. It took a little longer to put it into my Volvo, but in both cases I was very happy. In the Neon I was replacing a premium Mopar CD player, and the Blaupunkt sounds so much better. I had already replaced the speakers with Alpine in teh front and rear about a year before. The sad thing is that I almost didn't buy these radios because of the price, I figured if they were that cheap they had to sound awful, I was wrong. If you want to spend a little more money the Alpines with the High Speed IPOD interface built in are nice as well, I installed one in a 95 Neon last year, and loved it for the two months I had it before it was stolen. ETA: Craigs list might not be a bad idea, but not for me, I long ago swore off buying used car stereo gear, it just never worked out for me. |

try the new pioneers from best buy. price range is roughly 100 bucks to 260. they are all high quality, th eonly differences are features like RCA's, sat radio, ipod adapters, graphics. they all also come with remotes. rock solid units. do NOT buy their JVC, dual, or insigna. i dont liek hte kenwoods, their screens look like mid 90s dog shit. the new alpines have shitty looking pixely screens, like the kenwoods. that really pisses me off because i am an alpine guy. last years models look much better, i have a 2 year old model and it rocks your dodge will need a dash pocket kit (20 bucks) and a wiring harness (20 bucks). if they are nice they will throw in a handful of crimp caps and a few twist ties (i always do that for my customers) |
Why not use Zip Ties, so much cleaner looking On the whole buying used electronics, I see the risk too, but if it doesn't work keep their adress and go back to talk to them, hopefully they stand behind their product |
