| I had a JVC KD-S890 stereo/CD/MP3 player installed in a Jeep Cherokee Sport. It’s been working fine for almost a year, but last week I noticed some static on radio stations that were previously static free. Yesterday, I was only able to get in the strongest local stations, and even they would fade out on occasion while I was driving. The CD/MP3 player sounds fine. I don’t know anything about car stereos, but could this be some kind of antenna problem ? How would I check this myself ? The unit is high up in the console & I couldn’t see how I could reach up there to check for loose wires, or even see up there with a flashlight. Any ideas ? |

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and if the radio is in a similar spot on yours, you cant' reach up and get to the radio from the bottom. You'll have to pull the radio out with the key that came with it (if you still have them). Sounds to me like your antenna cable has either come loose from the radio, or loose from the actual antenna. Depending on were your antenna is located on the car, you can usually see that a little easier than taking the radio out. If it's on the passenger side fender like mine, you should be able to open the passenger side door and look up into the jam to see if the cable has been damaged or loosened. If not and you don't feel comfortable taking the radio out yourself, take it back to the place that installed it. It's only a few minute job for someone that knows what their doing and most likely it will not cost you anything. Good luck |
