My BIL just got his 98 Nissan Stagea 260RS he bought 16 months ago from Japan. He had to wait until it was 25 years old to bring it over...neat car...think of a hopped up (twin turbo IIRC), right hand drive station wagon...only made them in manual trans IIRC...

Where are the women in the school girl skirts? This is officially the worse threat ever.
I had a 300Z just like that one. |

I came across an 80s Rolls Royce in Asakusa back in 2017. Pretty dope, probably yakuza affiliated. Saw a silver 02ish Nissan Stagea with Volk GTCs, a R34 front end conversion, as well as Nismo pinstripe along the side in kamakura. There’s a photo on google images somewhere of it. Have photos but don’t care to upload them. Saw some cool stuff in akihabara as well. I love Japan, will be keeping my eye on this thread.

View Quote A guy local to me here in Utah has a 66ish Shelby GT350 that he bought when he was in the Air Force and took around the world with him. He has pics of it in Japan, Turkey, and England on his display board at the car shows. It would be really cool to see it make it's way back to Japan again. |

I didn't realize how rare those are. Wiki says only 197 ever produced. That has to be a rare sight even in Japan. I never knew those even existed so I looked them up. Pretty sweet for a wagon. If they came in LHD, I could see myself owning one. Any idea what it cost him delivered? |

View Quote I drive a 2.6 liter turbo Stagea over here - bone stock but pretty interesting as is. Only the 3-liter, un-boosted version came with a manual transmission. All the others were automatic. I specifically purchased the AWD version which is really different from the usual rear-engine car. |

Quoted: I would suppose that you would be able to skip a lot of these costs - except I expect you would still need to have some kind of insurance. And you would still have to park it and the trailer somewhere. Stuff is just going to be expensive here. Yup. Most guys who are here in the military have no idea how expensive it is living here without SOFA status. I first came here in the military and didn't know anything about it back then. I really didn't want to get a car for the first 20 years or so due to all the expenses. Now I have my own parking space and have learned how to get by on the cheap. I drive a Nissan Stagea, which is essentially a Skyline station wagon - 4 valves/cylinder, dual fuel injection, intercooled turbo, rear-biased All Wheel Drive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Stagea View Quote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Stagea |

My neighborhood in Tokyo is full of disgustingly rare and expensive cars. Recently there are a lot of American muscle cars coming into Japan, they are very popular and a lot companies are importing them because of hill climbs and time attack races. The cost performance compared to German cars is unmatched.
If I can figure out how to post photographic images, I will contribute. Nagoya has a very interesting car culture, just visiting there I spend a lot of time car watching. This thread is awesome and a good reminder of how lucky I am being able to drive so many cars and give my professional opinions. |
