Channel catfish vs Blue catfish

Are spots on the channel catfish the best distinguishing feature?

Yes,   but in some large adult channel cats, the spots are absent.

If they are Mexican cats I'll bet they have people parts in them.

I might be wrong here, but I seem to remember that channel cats have the forked tail and the blue cats have a rounded tail.

I think they both have forked tails.

From the link above, looks like the anal fin margin and number of rays is useful.

Both are forked, but the anal fin in a blue is different than a channel cat-I believe the anal fin of a blue cat is shorter than a channel cat of the same size and a slightly different shape.
ETA-I had it backwards. Blue cat has the longer fin.
Also, I THINK while both tails are forked, the blue cat has the tips of each fork rounded and the channel cat is sharply pointed
