I bought some caviar way back in 1976 just to see what it tasted like.  It was in a jar, it was Beluga, and it weighed 4 Oz.  It cost me about 150.00 if I remember correctly.

I brought it home, popped the lid, and spooned it onto a cracker.  It tasted like salty fish guts.

I gave my mom, dad and brother some, and they each had the same reaction.  The gag reflex was incredible.  I gave the last couple table spoons to the cat and she wouldn't eat it either.

So I'm just surfing the net and I come up on this.  www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B000F9XBJS/sr=1-24/qid=1191726123/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_top/104-0675741-1507967?ie=UTF8&n=3370831&s=gourmet-food&qid=1191726123&sr=1-24#customerReviews

Got me to thinking about my encounter with this shit.  Anybody ever have it?  Did you like it?  Are you supposed to eat it the way it comes or are you supposed to cook the shit?

Nasty shit.

It seems the worst it tastes the more it costs.

Those damn high society people still have to use cheap ass Listerine to get the taste out.

All I have had is the cheap lumpfish stuff.  If on a cracker with some cheese, it is not half bad.  But far from something I seek on any kind of regular basis.

I have eaten quite a bit while working in the Caspian region, but only because it was very cheap and readily available.

Most of it (~90%, IIRC) comes from the Caspian sea.  Having seen the Caspian sea up close many times, I would advise against eating anything that comes from it.  YMMV.

i like it.. i had paddle fish caviar, iirc it was about $25-30/oz.  its a unique flavor, did not taste like fish guts to me.  It was wierd, it was like i could not get enough of it.  i kept having to taste it trying to figure it out.
