Google passing on fix but carriers lax.

A year behind...

Apple pushes theirs through, no intermediary.

I like Android but unless I was buying a Nexus device, I would choose Apple for this among other reasons.

ETA: Only 7.5% on Marshmallow.

Apple and Google have different business models when it comes to phones.  Unless you buy a Nexus phone, or one with "guaranteed support" from the manufacturer, those manufacturers already have your money and don't really care.  Apple has a limited amount of hardware to write for so it pushes out updates quicker, but still cuts off your updates because they sell hardware and want you to buy a new phone after a couple years.

Here's a hint, all Apple iPhone 5's and 6's are the same, so pushing out an OS update for the two phones is relatively easy, as the hardware is uniform across the board.

An Android device is fairly vague, like a PC. None of the hardware across manufactures is 100% the same in either make-up, or capability. And then you have to figure in that every wireless provider insists on running a specific version of the OS for their phones.

A Verizon iPhone is an AT&T iPhone, is a T-Mobile iPhone, more or less.

A Verizon Android phone could be one of 10 or more different phones. A Verizon Samsung Android phone could be one of around 5 different phones, with different hardware with different capabilities between them.

LG is on top of their Android game.  I've never gotten so many updates to a device, they were the first to roll out 6.0.

Samsung is the absolute worst, they are overrate in so many ways.  I know the carriers are also to blame, but they usually push it out within 4 weeks of receiving it and testing.  The manufacturers though are awful, I will never own a Samsung again, terrible update support.

Android is a cool concept but a total shit show in reality.

Not to mention manufacturers like Samsung put their own bloatware version of Android on their phones. So when google releases an update they have to spend money to update their version to make sure all their shit still works. Plus why would they push out updates when you are going to buy a new phone in 2 years with the latest version of Android on it anyway?

The reason Apple releases come right away is Apple controls everything and there is no manufacture version of IOS on the device.

Just get a Nexus if possible. I love my Nexus 6. I get updates straight from Google the day they are released.

Motorola pushes updates sooner than any phone brand other than the Nexus line.

And then the carriers do that same after that... It's really a shit show.

No reason my S5 on Verizon shouldn't have marshmallow, now. Hell, they are still on the very first version of lollipop released back in Nov. 2014.

I'm still on Kitkat (4.4.2), as I don't get updates anymore because I cracked the phone.

This is why you root your Android. This way when Google releases the new update you go directly to them and get it. Fuck waiting for the carrier.
