I have a moto razr whose screen stopped working about 2 weeks ago. The phone still functions, but the screen wont come on. So I am now looking for a new phone. Im thinking the moto slvr, because I want to stick with moto and not have a flip phone anymore. Plus, I really dont need the functions the blackjack/blackberry has. My question is if I put my sim card in an unlocked slvr, will it work like normal? Also, what does unlocked mean?

I have a SLVR and I'd think twice about not getting a flip; buttons love to press when it's in pockets etc.  I still have a moto V551 as well, and I use that one occasionally, the SLVR never gets used any more.  It's the 8525 pda thinger for most days, and the V551 if I want something a little more compact/rugged.

That said the SIM should work fine in any unlocked phone, SLVR or otherwise.

Well if you have the data cable, you should be able to hook the phone to your computer and download the contacts to your Computer. This way if you get a new phone, you can then upload the contacts back to it.

my carrier is cingular. I am looking at getting the phone off ebay, so I probably cant get the store to do it. Also, I have the data cable, but when I connect it to my phone, it does not show up on the comp. I heard I have to have some sort of program on the comp to be able o connect it, is this true?

Save all your contacts to your sim card.  Then you'll have em on the new phone when you put your sim card in it.  I'm hell on phones.  I do it about once every 2 months.

This is a bit difficult if his screen is broken, that's why I didn't mention it.

DUH! you get a friends phone and follow through button by button to do it

I've had 2 Razr's dump screens.  I keep a backup file on disk of my phone book.

Dustys right, save all your contacts to the SIM CARD not the phone. You can also transfer from the phone to the Sim card like above poster said. I go through about 5 phones a year and i store my contacts to the Sim card not the phone and the only time i ever lost ant contacts is when some COCKSUCKING MUTHAR FUCKAR Stole my phone in Emory hospital in ATL 2nd day i was there.
I HATE GOD DAMN THIEVES
