WHEN the Zombie Apocalypse happens. Would it be a good idea to have some folks slapping together chain maille for those who have to go outside the wire to forage?

I bet it would be decently effective.

Chain mail is too heavy, I would wear leather instead. If it can protect you from road rash it should protect you from a zombie bite.

A better option is polyester (especially lime-green) which repels even the least sophisticated Zombies.

I've been working on a shirt of maille out of 1/16 inch 308 stainless in a 1-in-4 pattern that I would put up against anything short of a gun, the links have an ID of about 5/16 inch, it flows like cloth.



I might even finish it one of these decades.

The weight would slow you down too much. Any sort of barrier material against bites would work. Kevlar would do the same job at a fraction of the weight.

Light, good flexibility and weight distribution and good for low velocity impacts such as biting, fists, clubs etc.

I wouldn't go with chainmail alone. Too porous. No way do I want Zombie blood, saliva and semen coming into comtact with me.


Semen...coming....heh, heh...


I would put the chainmail over top a leather suit. Leather is non porous to zombie fluids yet still would breath, unlike neoprene.


And definitely wear your cod piece. Those dirty bastards always go for the family jewels...
