Tree fell down in a storm so I did alot of wood cuttin'.   My chain saw has a self-oiling blade.

What is the best way to clean the blade of the oil/sawdust gunk?

Take the chain and bar off and wipe it down using a good petro based compound.  Sometimes soaking it in kero works well.

Hippie blood.  Cleans it real good.

I take the bar and chain off when doing a major cleaning after heavy use. Flat blade screw driver to scrape out junk from the edges that gets into every crevice. Then I use ballistol as a cleaner and metal protectant.

Thanks for the good replies.

...... so..... I guess that putting the chain in the dishwasher is out?

I don't worry about the bar getting filthy, I am more concerned about keeping the saw's air cleaner somewhat breathing.

If you want to clean out the groove, there are depth raker gauge/drivelink cleaner hooks that saw shops sell. You can look up a saw shop in the Yellow pages.  Make sure that the cleaning tool will fit the groove.

watch out that you don't slice your hand on a burr on the bar.  Gloves are generally recommended.
