Can anyone recommend me a good chainsaw. I need one for just occasional cutting of wood for campfires and possibly for bad weather to get a few trees out of the road. It will not see much action, so I would like to keep it pretty cheap, but I want it to work when I need it. I really know nothing about them so any help would be appreciated. What brands are good or bad? What size? How much should I expect to pay? Anything else I need to know? Thanks

Love my 16" Stihl  Easy to use, good quality, no a bad rpice ($239 i think) and it does the job.  I use it like you do, just around the house.  Keep the gas fresh and clean, it will last for years.

Stihl is good, but I also like Husquavarna.

Was in your situation earlier this summer.  Did a lot of reading on the interwebs...
Ended up buying an NIB Echo 440 for $200 off eGhey.  Couldn't see spending more than $300 on an occasional use thing for the rare fallen tree in the back of my yard.  No problems with it, and I'm happy I bought it.

Otherwise, buy chaps.  Buy gloves.  Use earpro and eyepro.  Read the manual.  Twice.

I cut alot of wood for our woodburner.  I'm a tight ass and have had good luck with the 55cc craftsman 18".  I believe they are made by poulan.

I agree, Stihl makes an excellent chainsaw.

I probably should have bought a Stihl 5 or 6 years ago when I was looking for a chainsaw.  But, I thought I just needed to do some light limb pruning once in a while, so I got an 18" Poulan on sale for $90.00.

In addition to limb pruning, I've also used the Poulan to turn nine small (4" to 5" diameter) trees into firewood. I've had zero problems, but I may be the exception.

Men will question your man-card if you own anything other than a Stihl.

Orange beats green when it comes to gas powered tools.

I use a husky. From what I read on lumber and tree websites the Stihl's are superior in their commercial lines, but equal to husky for their civilian line.

For what you describe a Stihl MS210 would be fine and in the price range.
Get a spare chain, a case is nice, chaps.  Buy the fuel mix oil in the smallest bottle so you can mix a little at a time without having to remember formulas.

Always wear ears and eyes, just like shooting.
