I need help. I hate carrying a multi tool, because I don't feel that it performs any task I need it for adequately. I think that the perfect tool for my job would be a pair of channel lock/tongue and groove pliers with screw driver head handles. I think the Channel Lock 430s cut down an inch or two with a phillips head on one side and a flat head on the other would be just right. They would fit in my back pocket, have slimmer profile and take care of more jobs than the multi tools. Has anyone seen a tool like this? I would pay a premium for one!

You sure think like a plumber, the two tools I always grab are my channellocks, and my 6 in 1 screwdriver. I wonder if a man could take a set of Channelocks to a welder and have some bits welded to the end and then re-dip the handles in some Plastidip.

Weld a 1/4" socket to the handle to use scredriver bits (1/4").

This is gonna be my last resort. I can do it, but I'm afraid that the weld won't hold up due to the fact that the pliers and most screwdrivers are dissimilar metals. This will probably lead to a brittle weld and they will fail when I need it most. I've been googling this all morning and found a pair that has a flat-head on one handle, so I'm halfway there, hahaha. There was also a patent filed in '91 for this tool.

This.

Add a Wonder Bar and an old school sheetrock knife and you can fix most anything.

Just grind the end of one of the handles of the channel locks into a 1/4" square (or maybe 3/8").  Then JB Weld a socket that holds screw driver bits to it.

Dissimilar metals?

Every quality screwdriver and pair of Channelock pliers I have ever seen are made of some type of chro-moly or vanadium steel.

The only isuue I could see is the heat affected zone around the weld ruining the heat treatment and tempering of the tool.

Maybe leave the screwdriver shanks long enough to lap weld them along the side of the plier handles, instead of a small butt weld at the ends

Why not make one up and test it out? At most you'd be out a couple screwdrivers

You are probably right, I thought that channel locks were made of a mild steel with hardened jaws due to how easy the handles bend, and I was thinking that screwdrivers were stainless for some reason, although I realize that they are chrome plated now.

That seems to be the most useful Leatherman I've seen, but it still doesn't really suit my needs and has tools that I wont ever use on it. I always have a knife in my pocket and I don't need a file or scissors, so they are just dead weight as far as I'm concerned.

This is a pretty good set-up, but still not exactly what I'm looking for. I would really like the Channel Lock style because I can handle a pretty wide range of nuts or bolts.
