it worked for my mom when she was on it. she went back to smoking when she stopped the Chantix.
she smoked for 40+ years.

Some guys in my unit used it... apparently it works really well... but, a few had some insane nightmares and other weird behavior. I don't really recall exactly what - it has been quite a few years.

The stuff scares me - I can tell you that.

I am on day 9 of it. Up to 2MG a day. Have an upset stomach for 45 or so minutes after taking my pill, but it's not too bad. Haven't had the vivid dreams yet that I was told I would enjoy. My temper seems a little worse than normal too.( Still have a lot of work and home stress that may be the cause of my bad mood).

Buddy of mine had horrible nightmares and thoughts of suicide.....He still smokes after he quit taking the meds.

Quit cold turkey, you can do it!

My mom, dad and I all used it successfully. Works great, some goofy dreams, like weird dreams I could control and pick up where I left off when I went back to sleep and gas that could literally peel paint. I mean not even laugh and tease your friends kinda stuff, but foul, intolerable not even the least bit funny kinda gas.

Anywho, mom and dad smoked for 40+ years and I smoked for 10, took it two weeks, just lit a smoke one day and it tasted like shit, smelled like shit and I was done.

Occasionally I'll have a cigarette here and there when I'm standing with someone that smokes and they're still disgusting. But I still try out of old habit I guess.

Worked for me on quitting the all mighty and great Copenhagen.
No trippy dreams or any other side effects.  Snuff free for 3 yrs now

I took it, insurance wouldn't cover it but fuck it. I stopped smoking after the 7th day mark and haven't had a cigarette since, that was July 2013. No side effects, I already have super vivid dreams so nothing weird there. Best decision I ever made. Good luck quitting, you wont regret it.

I had an ex-girlfriend that went on the stuff.  She was always a bit crazy, but went completely unhinged a week into taking it.  I've heard anecdotal evidence of it going both ways.

did it, and stopped smoking without even trying and barely noticing.  very vivid dreams, and i was a walking erection the entire time i was on it.  was like high school again, worrying that i was going to have to sit around after class.

but it's like anything else--it won't quit for you.  after about a year smoke-free, i smoked a cigar to keep myself alert on a road trip.  a week later, i was back up to a pack a day.

I used it and it did help me quit cigarettes. Got me down to 4-5 a day then the rest was on me.

Only side effect type issue I had were the dreams. I wouldn't call them nightmares but they were EXTREMELY vivid and realistic. Some real weird stuff.

I quit about 7? years ago using it.
Felt for all the talk about how the
dreams was so wild/crazy it would
make quitting fun. I as usual
got ripped off cause I didn't experience
anything remotely worth telling or remembering.

about 3wks of taking it and stayed locked up
in bedroom for a 3 day weekend. I emerged a
non-smoker.

It worked for me I quit 7 years ago

I had one nightmare the first week I took it and then I did not have any more problems with it.

I used it for 31 days I took it for 10 day then quit smoking completely then took it for 3 more weeks have not smoked anything since

Within that month the entire department hated her and her husband wanted a divorce.

It either works really well or you become a psycho bitch.

been on a few 911 calls because of it.

a couple at the persons home, acting weird per the family.

one out on the street, literally out of their mind, did not know who they were even.

Spouse called saying loved one was missing and acting weird before bed. PD was there, with same description of person. Spouse showed up a few minutes later with Chantix box.

Buddies daughter and her husband took it. Both of their personalities changed, they went from a loving couple to her cheating and him losing his mind (literally). They divorced after he found out about the cheating and she woke up to the front end of an AR in her face.

On the bright side neither smoke now, so they got that going for them which is nice.

Worked great for a few weeks, then I started getting migraines from it.  I'm prone to migraines though, so don't go by me.  Wound up quitting 1.5 years ago using ecigs and the patch.

Saw two people try it and end up with really pissy moods who never actually quit.

Have you considered an ecig yet? Seriously, head over to the Vaper's Lounge, they will set you up with a nice recommendation.

In fact, if you decide to try vaping, I have a 30mL bottle of boutique grapefruit flavor juice I'll send you.

ETA: I would recommend an iTaste MVP with a Nautilus tip. Should run <$100.

Worked great for me.  No ill side effects.  Only really side effect seemed to be I remembered my dreams damn near every night, which was actually pretty cool.  After I quit taking it I was smoke free for 6months until I bummed a cig drunk at a bar one night .  Currently doing the e cig thing and stepping down the nicotine levels.

Worked ok for me. 3 years smoke free now. But to be fair the patches did too when I quit the first time 11 yrs ago. Only started smoking again because of the Arfcom curse.

INSANE Nightmares and INSANE Nausea.

I'd take the pill and within 30 seconds have severe nausea for an hour or so.  It started to become between 1 hour of crazy nausea or just smoke a damn cigarette.  Thankfully vaping doesnt make me nauseated and have quit smoking for over 4 months now.

Did you eat before taking?  I had nausea the first few days.  I Started eating before taking the pill which fixed the issue.

Former smoker here, I managed to quit thanks to horrible flu about 6 years ago, smoke free ever since.  I never smoked in the house, and for a week straight dealing with the headaches from not smoking was less terrible than going outside in the February cold to choke on cigarettes.

I had a coworker that claimed his brother became narcoleptic from using Chantix.  A friend said his girlfriend's sex drive went to 0 overnight from using Chantix.

There are other, far safer ways to quit.  It's not worth the risks.

Tried it a couple of times.
First time I had no side effects other than it made me feel like my hair was on end for the first week or so. Stopped smoking for a few months, but started up again because my wife smoked and they were still in the house.
Second time the jittery, hair-on-end feeling wasn't nearly as bad, but it made me quite nauseous every day, and I didn't stick with it long enough to quit.
Third time I said the hell with the Chantix and bought a couple cartridge type e-cigs. I still use the e-cig (not as much as when I started it), but both the wife and I have been regular cigarette free since the first week of September.

My anecdotal story:

Friend of mine and his GF took it, and went out one night bar hopping. Supposedly alcohol use on Chantix is a no-no.

Anyway, they got home and got into a huge fight...he pushed her around some, then ran out of the house yelling incoherently. After running around the outside of the house, he ended up in his neighbor's backyard. I guess he thought his neighbor's backdoor was actually his, and thought his GF had locked him out, so he starts trying to kick in the back door while yelling like a madman.

Homeowner, having no idea WTF is happening, thinks he is being robbed...grabs a 357 wheelgun and shoots through the door...aiming high to try to "scare" off the "intruder". Well, my buddy was tall...6 '5 or so...bullet goes right thru his face. DRT.

They both had complained about nightmares and such while on Chantix, and other shit. I knew the guy personally, and he was a heavy drinker but not an aggressive dude in any way. Pretty peaceful, really.

He was a good guy, until this. Was it Chantix? no idea.

Wow.

Sorry to hear about that.

I don't mean to keep harping on about ecigs but... never heard of someone going crazy on one, you know?

Nor mine.
Zippo-lit Camel Filter softpack until I quit on my own.

Last time I quit, I woke up and just didn't smoke for a few months.
Have to try that again.

I tried it, I don't think it worked very well. After taking the medicine as prescribed, I still had three full days of feeling shitty. Lasted about  4 months before I started again. The dreams were terrible.

Guy I worked with was taking it and went completely loopy while on it.

He quit the pill after one guy dared him to pull out his penis in front of the secretary.

I watched him open the door say something to her and drop everything  right in the office doorway.

He went back to mostly normal after that day.

ETA: The guy was a drinker and this definitely came into play.

I didn't like the crazy ass dreams and the way it made me feel day to day. E-cigs got me to quit with minimal issues, of course YMMV.

Made MIL even more bat shit crazy.  Stopped smoking but the crazy lingers.

E-cig for me.  Kept cutting the nicotine in half with every order and whala I'm a non smoker.

Worked great for me. No side effects, no weird dreams, nothing but being somewhat fidgety for a week after which I believe was from nicotine withdrawal. My wife took it and was able to almost quit but couldn't do it. She waited a while and tried again and was successful. We had both been smokers for 20+ years.

I am a cpa that am working on a client's estate.  Her family just received a big settlement since a high percentage of chantix users off themselves.  I would avoid it after reading the client file and lawsuit material but whatever.

Chantix did not work for me, no bad side effects experienced.

I also tried welbutron which didn't work either to quit smoking, but the only side effect I had makes me want to take it again, remember those dreams you use to have when you were in your teens and horny as hell where you banged the whole cheerleading squad, I was having those kind of dreams and I'm 40. I miss those dreams.

Had a coworker who took it, had as he described it a realistically vivid dream in which he slaughtered his wife and quadruplets with a knife. He stopped taking it.

5 years ago I used it to help me quit.  I screwed up after 6 months.

Next doctor appt, I got a new script and haven't had a cigarette in 3.5 years.

I had some really vivid dreams, which was unusual mostly because I was suffering from apnea and didn't dream much back then.

It calms your nerves some, but mostly just blocks your receptors from actually getting the nicotine. I smoked for 2 months on chantix, but never would get a buzz...cold turkey by default.

I'm a psychiatric nurse who assesses patients in an ER.  Every once in a while, I see otherwise normal people that come in or are brought in by LE for psychiatric symptoms that after a bit of digging we find had just recently started taking Chantix.  It's even worse when it's prescribed to patients with known psychiatric issues.

Many do-gooder nurse practitioners think they're doing their patient such a favor by helping them quit smoking. These anti-smoking zealots are blinded by their fanatical anti-tobacco agenda. Chantix isn't worth the risk IMO.

IMO, risks of chantix < risks of smoking.

YMMV
