I had the privilege of seeing the premier of Redux from a virgin 70mm print in a THX certified theater.
This scene is just unreal with the surround sound kicking.
Nothing like the small screen, you can see every leaf in the shadows of the jungle scenes.
Storaro won his Oscar for this work.

All that crap is from Redux. They had a break in shooting because of a typhoon.
That scene was cut from the film and rightly so.

There's a reason it's called editing.

The only Bunny scene in APN is the USO show.
Yes that's a cameo by the Bill Grahm and the cowgirl bunny is Cynthia Wood, 1974 Playmate of the Year.

Look at the deep focus in the shot at 1:06.
Genius cinematography, truly.

I perfer the original release of APN. I have Redux but but have only been able to watch it once. The Bunny scene and the French scene ruin Redux. I need to find APN on DVD as my VHS tape is 20 years old.

It is.Redux is worth watching I guess but what they added was mostly unbelievable bullshit.

1.Martin Sheen comes upon some French Plantation while going up the Mekong and ends up porking the plantation owners wife.10 points  for the superb tits she had but -50 points for anybody really thinking that at this point in the war a small private army would still be holding back the NVA.

2.What in the hell did the guys porking the playboy bunny's in the Huey have to do with the movie?I won't even go into to the unbelievability of it.

3.Again,what in the world did stealing the Colonel's surfboard have to do with anything?

I agree. It was confusing and none of those parts matched the tone of the rest of the film. The surfboard part was funny at first, but it's SO out of character for Willard to do something like that that it jerks you out of the film for a second.

I watched some of the special features on the redux DVD and it was cool to learn about how they'd made the actual film –– using red, green, and blue ink similar to a newspaper, rather than like developing a photograph. The colors in the movie are simple and vivid –– really adds to the surrealism and the "hallucinogenic" flavor that the whole movie has.

Apparently the slaughter of the bull/caribou at the end was an actual Philippino native ritual that happened to occur while they were filming –– I had been wondering how they made it look so real.

The music was haunting, too.

I'll admit it –– I went into the movie last night having only seen it on TV before. I was remembering it more as a war movie. But since then I've seen and loved the Godfather movies (i.e. learned to appreciate Coppola's work), and after seeing the devotion it got here, I watched it with a more "interpretive" eye last night. I'll say now that it is one of my all-time favorite films.

Charlie Don't Surf
(The Clash)

CHORUS
Charlie don't surf and we think he should
Charlie don't surf and you know that it ain't no good
Charlie don't surf for his hamburger Momma
Charlie's gonna be a napalm star

Everybody wants to rule the world
Must be something we get from birth
One truth is we never learn
Satellites will make space burn

We've been told to keep the strangers out
We don't like them starting to hang around
We don't like them all over town
Across the world we are going to blow them down

CHORUS

The reign of the super powers must be over
So many armies can't free the earth
Soon the rock will roll over
Africa is choking on their Coca Cola

It's a one a way street in a one horse town
One way people starting to brag around
You can laugh, put them down
These one way people gonna blow us down

CHORUS

Charlie don't surf he'll never learn
Charlie don't surf though he's got a gun
Charlie don't surf think that he should
Charlie don't surf we really think he should
Charlie don't surf

Charlie don't surf and we think he should
Charlie don't surf and you know that it ain't no good
Charlie don't surf for his hamburger Momma
Charlie don't surf

As you watch, note the brief appearance of R. Lee Ermey as the chopper pilot who's flying the chopper that Sheen is in.

A war movie isn't worth a damn if it doesn't have R. Lee Ermey in it somewhere.  Even back then FFC knew it.

"That's a roger Big Duke. Ok, we're going in."
R. Lee Ermey is "Eagle Thrust".

Three Strip Technicolor is awesome. The color can always be reprinted from the silver neg's.
Redux was released as new dye-transfer prints.
The reel I saw was virgin. Perfect, not a scratch or a speck of dust on it anywhere.

APN is a really good example of a film you want to see properly projected in a quality theater with good sound.
Coppola's cameo.
I believe that's Storaro next to him with the hand held, which means that shot was probably taken by the second unit.
