Anyone use one of these? It says that (when used as an intercom) both people must have a unit; is there anything else that this is compatible with or will it only work with another XBi2?
I'm looking to get something that I can use both to talk to a passenger/other rider and answer my phone while riding my motorcycle. The XBi2 seems to be the most highly recommended, but I'm open to other options. Thanks in advance for any input. |

My wife and I use a pair of XBi2's regularly. I am rather happy with the system, but it is far from perfect. The first thing is that if you're riding at highway speeds, it increases how much noise you hear as the wind noise transmits into the mike and from the other helmet, and then to you. This is only a problem when using it as an intercom. I wouldn't call the sound quality amazing either, because at that speed you can't always hear the other person clearly. Another quirk about it is that if you have it paired to your phone, it dials the last number you called on your phone when you turn it on. EVERY time. I don't like having to get my phone back out when I am about to hop on the bike.
Clear or not, being able to instantly communicate with my wife while she's riding pillion is great. We spent last friday at a bike week event and were off and on the bike over a 12 hr period and the battery lasted the whole time as long as we remembered to shut them off when we stopped. As a music player/phone headset it works fine too, but I've found that the quality depends on how sophisticated your phone is. I get pretty good sound with two nokia phones that are bluetooth 2.0 or better, but it's rather poor with my motorola w490. The quality of sound is nowhere as good as some in ear buds though. I have also used the headsets to communicate with my wife when she was practiceing her riding skills on another bike and while we never came close to testing the max range, it was a usefull tool. |
