For some reason, the check disk application started to run every time I boot up my laptop while Windows is booting up. It starting doing this a couple of days ago. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Your primary hard disk might be on the verge of going bad.
Or you have a FAT32 USB drive plugged in constantly during bootup.
Check the drive letter chkdsk is scanning.

I'm trying to remember, but maybe it was for Win 98, that the computer powered down too quickly for the hard drive to finish writing.
