I am building a 89 Chevy truck up as a weekend driver/street rod and i am now at the point of buying wheels. I want to go with a 15x10 but cannot find anywhere what the maximum backspacing i can run is. I want 10s but want them tucked under as much as possible. Any help will be great. If it makes any diff it has a 2/4 drop. thanks

4 3/4"-5" should be fine.

First you need to pick the tires you want to use and find their true OD.
Trun the wheel all the way to one side and measure from the center of the wheel hub to the closest thing the tires may rub on.
If you have more than half the OD of your tires they will work,if not you need more backspacing.

Also, you will need to know how much suspension travel you have so when you pick tires out they aren't too big and slam in to your wheel wells every time you hit  bump.

You can calculate your own backspace.  It is measured from the hub surface to the edge of the rim, not the tire mounting surface.

There are many custom wheel manufacturers that make any backspace you want.  I have an order going at Wheel Vintiques as we speak.  Tire profile will then be a factor in how much bulge is outside of the rim.
