Christian Craighead is finally telling his story - SRS (Page 4 of 4)

Not sure how I missed the original thread, could be that 9/11 weighs heavy on me every year on the date before and after. If the mods see fit, please go ahead and lock mine. In on the dupe Book back ordered, hope it's not banned. |

I'm going to be honest with you guys I finally bought a pair of Jim Green Barefoot African Ranger shoes after watching this interview. (CC was wearing these boots during SRS interview). To be fair I already had them in my cart. Got them today (with his book) and they are pretty rad. |

I agree that a Christian shouldn't be promoting it. At the same time, SR is deserving of some grace; he's a new Christian (albeit, Catholic) and he/his team either didn't think much of it, OR thought the benefit ($) outweighed the negative impact. Romans 14:13 - "Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother." I like that verse for things like this. I bet to most people, Draft Kings is meaningless. Yet to another group, it steals away their productive efforts and ruins their lives. So personally, I'd never read their ad regardless of the pay. |

Where is the Kenyan government in all this? Have they made any statement or offered material support? There once was a time that governments awarded medals and awards for gallantry. Given Craighead's legal troubles with his government, it would be appropriate for Kenya to offer him citenzenship. And, did Kenya learn any lessons? There is discussion about the previous terror attacks as if they are common and well understood. Has Kenya taken measures to prevent future attacks? Are they aware that Craighead's intervention was a once in a lifetime event? Are they training their operators, and their leadership, to respond decisively instead of standing around awaiting permission? I fear that as usual we fail to take the lessons from a significant event. And it's not just limited to foreign governments. Little is done to prepare the US population for the inevitable attacks that will happen here. |

The book was a good and easy read. 1. Chris believes that all of the hard times he had in life, particularly as a kid, prepared him to take care of business that day. 2. Fog of war, the thing that matters is the will to take action, revise it as you go 3. He tells a fairly matter-of-fact play by play of what he did. 4. His phone was one of his top assets. it put him in touch with a Kenyan general that gave him the green light and got the kenyan military to back him. 5. Ear pro left in the truck... 6. NFG about the dead terrorists. His job was to kill them. |
Don't be so open-minded that your brains fall out.
General education should not be mere job training, but training in how to be fully human.

Little is done to prepare the US population for the inevitable attacks that will happen here. This was a 17 hour event. So after a time Kenya had their trained/equipped people on scene who provided support to Craighead. Craighead indicated that they knew how to do CQB. The 2013 al-Shabaab Westgate shopping mall attack was a 4 DAY event that al-Shabaab was hoping to repeat in 2019. Craighead's immediate response forced al-Shabaab to go on the defensive early which kept the death toll to a minimum. Craighead was afraid that the local authorities would sit back, form a perimeter and wait... which he knew would be a disaster. Authorities on scene gave Craighead control so he could get things sorted out ASAP. Agreed that lessons are not learned from or passed on. Glad Craighead is speaking out so we can learn from his successes and failures. Speaking of lessons learned, many of the largest school massacres were done by governments, some by their own government: List of school massacres by death toll Lesson, don't count on somebody to save you. Know how to properly barricade a room. Know how to properly use cover and concealment. Carry a proper defensive pistol and know how to use it. That means training to a standard. |

Craighead understood and applied strategy, tactics, properly using cover, shoot/no-shoot, OODA loop, leadership, communication, and he used his intuition to the max. |

I listened to it as an audiobook and he does the narration of it. I'm often skeptical of authors to do their own narration but he pulled it off extremely well. If his MOD pension doesn't work out I think he could make up for it narrating audiobooks. |
