Really....WTF is this stuff....my youngest sister keeps giving me jars of this shit!, which I promptly toss. Really...I tasted it, and it is some sort of major nasty. My kids won't even eat it. I tried to feed it to my black lab(who will generaly eat anything), and he gave me the 'fuck you' look too. The stuff is worthless!

Now my older sister just mailed me a jar of homemade Chutney! Both these sisters are democrats.....both are distressed I'm a Republican.....and both are trying to cram chutney up my ass!

I smell some sort of dirty liberal left-wing commie plot!

Do democrats eat lots of chutney?

It's an Indian (asian) fruit relish for meat.  Usually spicy, tart, and sweet.  The OP's sister's probably give him their excess chutney because you don't need a whole lot, and the batches you make of it are usually much more than one person can reasonably eat before it goes bad....unless you like eat several spoons of chutney at each meal.

I'm not for sure? Looks like some good tasting jam with fruit in it.....tastes like a week dead rhino's ass with jalapeno and strawberrys.

I like a savory cilantro chutney, it's great on bread.  Don't get the idea that all chutneys are nasty, just because one your sister made is.  She is a Democrat after all.

I don't like the sweet ones, but some chutney is good on spicy (or not) Indian food.

I went to South Africa 4 months ago and tried some "Mrs Balls" - actually pretty good:

I make some curry at home.    The kids like the Mango Curry (from a jar) with cubed chicken (I grill some ahead of time, cube it and freeze it), peas and carrots over rice.

There's a mango and dried fruit chutney from the same grocery store that's very good with it.

As was mentioned, it's a savory fruit jam with spices. The best use for chutney is on many pork products: tenderloin, chops, etc....

It's a fancy relish.

Try something new - you might like it.

Chutney rocks!

I like Major Grey's from the jar.
I also make a mean Cranberry Fig Chutney with Hazelnuts.
