Ok, I will explain this to the best of my extremely limited Citrix knowledge... I need to set up the Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop to be delivered via the new Receiver for HTML5. Basically so that people who remote ssl vpn in are terminating at a netscaler, and accessing published xen apps and desktops via HTML5. Where do I start? What software components will I need? Any help to get the ball rolling would be awesome...

Is this a new deployment? I'm currently working on a Xenapp 6.5 deployment.
ETA: From what I'm finding you will need to install a Storefront server. http://support.citrix.com/proddocs/topic/receiver-html5-11/receiver-html5-install.html |

I'm replacing an old Presentation 4 implementation that hasn't been supported by Citrix in years. I've only been at my current company for a year and have no real previous Citrix experience so when the boss gave me this project I told him to send me to a training class and he did. I just took the class about 3 weeks ago and helped with some of my questions. I then got a 90 day demo license for Xenapp and I've set up a test farm to look for gotchas and just get the process down. How many users is the deployment for? I can promise you, you do not want to rush the implementation and try to do it all in a month. I've seen that done at a previous job and there were a lot of pissed off people. I've been messing with it for a few weeks and my network guy and I still have questions and testing planned since we are going to be using new F5s instead of Netscalers. If it has to be done in that time frame then you are going to need professional services and have someone else implement it. On another note, are you deploying both Xenapp and XenDesk? XenDesk is a VDI solution and you will need to pay special attention to getting it configured properly and have the I/O on the storage side. If you don't have enough spindles to handle it you are going to have a very poor experience with it. I'd love to get my hands on it but it's not in the cards at this time. It was recommended by the instructor and a Citrix guy at CDW to use a Storefront server so I've been trying to get a Storefront server up in place of my web interface server but I've hit some snags. I built the WI server just to get the farm up and tested as that's what we were taught in the class. From what I'm finding about the error I"m getting I need to enable a GPO to allow scripts but given we are still on 2003 DCs I'm having some problems and I'm going to have to build a full test environment since we don't already have one. |

This deployment is just so we can test the environment with our product. So basically it's being deployed for 1 user....me. Hah! Looks like we want to deploy XenApp first. We don't have the physical resources to dedicate to making it run efficiently. So with that...my first questions would be: 1. What can I virtualize? Can I set up storefront/license server/etc on VMs? Can I virtualize the entire deployment? 2. What components do I need to make XenApp work? 3. Do you have any deployment recommendations or any wise information to pass along? Thanks Paadams |

Thanks Paadams Ok, if all you are doing is testing then it should be fairly easy. 1. Virtualize all of it, especially for testing. I'll even run a virtual SQL server in production, but that one is up to you. 2. 4 required components - Datastore(SQL DB), Web server, XenApp server, License server --- If it's a simple test you can probably run all of it from a single VM or maybe two. If you are feeling frisky then build a server for each role. --I'm pretty sure the install disk will install SQL Express if you need it. All the required components will be on the ISO you download from Citrix, you just install different components depending on the need. 3. I've ran in to some problems with my AD environment with trying to build the Storefront server so if it's just for testing then you can setup a Web Interface server. They are phasing it out in favor of Storefront but both options will be on the ISO. Citrix has some good info HERE I don't have any advice off hand but feel free to ask questions as you have them. ETA: PM sent as well. |

Even the citrix IRC channel was no help...yet you come through in the clutch. Come to Austin, I think I owe you at least a few beers by now. I'll shoot you an e-mail if I have any detailed questions from here...which I am sure I will. Answers to those will entitle you to beer's 4-6 |
