I've wanted to serve for a while now, and I've been looking into the Coast Guard. I'm 24, have a BS in Justice Studies, and was involved with NJROTC in high school. I would like to go officer, but their web site has little info on the subject. The closest recruiter is in Atlantic City, but I've been working a lot of OT so no time in the near future to stop and talk.

Basically just any info about the process of applying

Also interested in any other info you can give me. How often would I be sent over seas? can I volunteer for that?

Thanks in advance!

i worked with at least a dozen men and women from the coast guard.
i believe they were some of the most professional people i have worked with.
officers and enlisted, I've met 2 coasty admirals, both were very professional.
good luck, go for it. take time off and go see the recruiter. READ your contract, ask questions and do research.
( I'm not telling you to join, but if its rite for you, have fun)
they do a lot of cool shit, drug interdiction's, border and port patrols, ship boarding, cool shit
God speed.

First what do you want to do in the USCG? (Depending on what type of job you want officer might not be where you want to go.)

If you decide going officer since you have a degree you would go to OCS.

If you decide to go Enlisted since you have a degree you will enter the USCG as an E3. And should get $5,000 for a bonus since you have a degree at least that is what they have done in the past.
If you’re joining to get the G.I. bill so you can further your degree by earning a MD or DD as an officer you wont receive the G.I. Bill but you can Receive T.A. Tuition assistance. The reason why I bring this up is because I have known other active duty personal who decided not to go Officer even though they had a degree because they wanted the G.I. Bill to further their degree.
Send me a message if you want to know more.

I don't know about volunteering but a co-worker of mine in the CG was recently sent over-seas for a couple of months.
