ETA:  As in, "MTSC John Doe."

I ran it through search a few times, but didn't get anything that seemed right.

Not 100%, as there is a typo near where this is written.

Makes sense. The abbreviation for the rate of Boatswain's Mate First Class is BM1 but Chief Boatswain's Mate is BMC.

Either one Chief Marine Science Tech or Marine Science Tech Chief. But if you prefer I like the term Duck Scrubber as a former USCG GM

So now that that's settled, what did he do?  Do I need to call someone in his command?

Nothing––-he was listed as a reference by an officer applying to a spot in my unit, and I didn't want to call him "Mr." when calling him on the phone, or address him improperly in an email if I couldn't get him on the horn.  Going by what was posted, I called him "Chief," which seems to have been the way to go.

I believe his rank is Senior Chief, as for the MT, maybe Maint. Technician. And you would address him as Senior Chief as well, so I have been told by the Coasties here in Kodiak.
