do you guys not watch mythbusters?  it's been their favorite toy for a year now!  and it's not the sugar in the mentos, it's the surface area that causes the carbonation to come out very rapidly.

A couple friends of mine put a stick of mentos in a pepsi bottle (works the best with diet coke) and screwed the lid on and threw it off their motel balcony into the parking lot at 3am when we went on a roadtrip to Vegas.. needless to say it was FUCKING LOUD when it exploded..

Yep, one mento will do all that. It has to do with the aspartame in the diet coke and something in the mento, regular coke will not work.

Sugar in the Mentos.

Try pouring a packet of suger into a glass of Diet Coke, it'll foam up and overflow the glass.  (I tried this as a kid, I didn't like the taste of Diet Coke, so I went to add sugar and found out it what happens.)

I've never done the Mentos bomb, but I have put the heater pouch from an MRE into a water bottle.  I'm guessing they both make the same boom!


I've heard that with MRE bombs if you attach an ignition source to them, they pop and then burn (rapid gas fire, semi-explosion like), due to the fact the MRE heater is producing hydrogen gas in large quantities.

Not sure how true it is... I've never tried that version... I remember the hindenberg.
