| Anybody feel he sold out? I used to think he was a brilliant man but when he backed Obama bin Laden, I lost all respect for him. |
I thought he was great in the military, also. But now this?!!! WTF!!!

I have never respected the man. He got where he is due to the color of his skin. His military and tactical knowledge is atrociously lacking. I wasn't surprised when he sided with Barack. Powell lacks enough integrity to vote "country first." The timing of his announcement was questionable too. 2 weeks before the election? This was meant to damage McCain pure and simple. |

I saw this coming a mile away... Colin Powell was against the invasion despite the fact he went in front of the UN and laid out the Bush administration's case. Behind the scenes, when he raised his objections to the pending war, Bush & Cheney basically told him to sit down and STFU...normally, the opinion of the SECSTATE is supposed to carry considerable weight with his boss. I'd be willing to bet that W. just pretty much blew him off. BTW- Powell was also against Desert Storm...Cheney was SECDEF back then and quite probably told Powell to STFU then as well. What you're seeing is good ol' fashioned payback. The fact that Colin Powell and Obama are both black is just icing on the cake. The upside of this is that Powell has been out of public service long enough that his endorsement doesn't really carry much weight with the voting public...he just took the opportunity to publicly stick his finger in the eye of Bush & Co. ETA: Both Powell & Obama are products of Affirmative Action...

+1 Colon Powell is a seriously overrated person. I don't get where people characterize him as 'brilliant' and he has absolutely no integrity (after everything the Bush Family did to push him to the front, his behavior after he resigned Sec of State has been contemptible). |
Exactly right. My prespective as well. |
I wish this were true. I am currently in a school surrounded by 15 active duty field grade officers from all the services and there have been some very heated debates reference this election. It is sad to hear some of their defense argument in support of Obama and of their intent to vote for him. There are two rabid supporter of him in a class of 16. I wonder how many others plan to vote for him? Mind you these are not stupid people. They are intelligent and have been deployed multiple times. I believe their sentiments are based on their perceived failings of the current administration. I don't want to argue this point but it goes to show that our military is a cross section of the American public. We are not a politically homogeneous group. |
That is a steaming pile of BS if I've ever heard one. He was only the architect of the first gulf war. Try not to hyperventilate so much. It's one thing to disagree, but quite another to rewrite history. |
No way. General Powell was initially AGAINST the use of troops against Iraq. The Powell Doctrine was overwheming numbers. It was General Schwarzkopf who had planned the Arabian contingency. CENTCOM, not JCOS. MacDill AFB. |

Somebody sits around and researches prior posts and shakes their head in disbelief. Interesting.
|
Actually, it took all of TWO minutes. Shake that. |
You fail in so many ways. Perhaps you should read Stormin' Norman's biography along with GHWB's memoirs. Either one will give you the knowledge about Powell that you are lacking. He was not a brilliant military mind. He had delusions of adequacy at best. |
