I have recently noticed how much of a ripoff college is. I have been doing a little reading on the military, and you get all this stuff free or cheap if you are in the military like dental, medical, housing, and you can retire early in life. It looks like a grand pyramid of gold compair to college and jobs after that (that is if you can find a job in relation to your major. It is funny how evident this is when I can reflect on my life compair to my cousins. Right now I live at home still treated like a child by many, and broke all the time due to tuition and books. And he is out there in his own place making a good amount. then I look to later years I am looking at 4 more years, of this. Is it worth it? I say "NO!" . thats why I am going to talk to the Air Force advisor. Just my $0.02 |
I get paid to go to college. My employeer pays 100% for tuition and books. I get 3 hours a week off paid to study plus a 5K worth of company stock as a graduation present for each degree. Stick with the school. In the past people were promoted without a degree but those days are gone. Go to school now. I wish I did it 30 years ago when I got out of High School.

| LOL, you are looking at the wrong schools then. The military is no free lunch, its long hard road that is always looking to ram you in the ass. Sure the military will take care of you- as long as you are willing to give up your freedom and join a socialist type life or even give your life. If you do join the military, do it for the right reasons- not for free college or dental, if you do it for these things you will be disapointed and your tour will be a rough one. |
Yeah, that's it. Free medical, dental, housing and early retirement. The medical is not the best - if you are the honest victim of malpractice you just get awarded a nice day. During the Clinton administration they closed a whole bunch of the military hospitals. I now get to go to a VA hospital and wait in line with all those early retired folks. The families heath care is though a managed care provider. Dental is free for me but costs a bunch for the family - use to be free when I first enlisted. Free housing - yeah, when they closed the local military housing down they found DDT in the soil, asbestos in the insulation, rats and roaches everywhere, lead in the paint and the water ... the place is now a hazardous waste site ![]() 23 years living as a gypsy never staying in the same city longer than three years, leaving the family for 6 to 10 months a year, working 8 hour days the other 2-4 months a year. Working 16 hour days at sea seven days a week for six months on end. Sleeping on several hundred thousand tons of explosive, working in a nuclear reactor, while having jet aircraft loaded with ordance slam into the roof while sailing around the Persian Gulf full of mines with SilkWorm missles only seconds away by air ... while trying to sleep in a coop with 90 guys with the AC cranked up all the way to drop the temp down to 85 and with a pipe with food waste dripping constantly into the pit above you ... It's a great life I tell ya' You don't join the military for the health care, the barracks, or the "free" travel or education - join because you want to serve this country as you'll soon find out that the pay sucks, the health care is often second class, and living in a barracks room is even worse than living with your parents. It has to be in your heart or you're going to wake up hating your life one morning (at 5:00 AM revelle).
