I had one done over a year ago.

They want you to fart. I am just telling you that you shouldn't trust that fart. I left them a whale of a surprise in that robe!!!

If you have the option available. Get the new virtual Colonoscopy. I had that done two years ago. It's much more patient friendly. It's basically a CT-Scan of your colon.

Yeah, you will fart. Fortunately thanks to the fasting and moviprep having purged your colon like a volcanic eruption you will having to risk farting out.

I did the prep exactly according to the directions they gave. I cant help it if I am just so full of crap that the flush out didn't clear me out. I was on the throne for hours the whole night before the procedure. I don't see how there could have possibly been anything left in there.

Why? I was told it was 100% effective. If it was a good enough testing for the pres of the US then it was good enough for me.

because its diagnostic only. It's not 'effective' because it doesn't do anything ie No intervention can be performed.
If you have a polyp or other suspicious lesion they will ask you to prepare for a colonoscopy anyway so that they can snare/biopsy it.

Keep in mind no one likes the president.

The way I see it, if they do see something interesting they are going to want to biopsy it or take direct action. So this means if they do spot something you are going to have to go through the entire prep, again, and then have a full colonoscopy where they can actually do something. Why have the rads exposure for just a looksy when 90% of the discomfort comes from the prep anyways?

No you prep the same way. Drink all the nasty stuff the night before. If they see something your brought into the next room to probe and remove. If not your on your way home. The traditional test has a 3% risk of ripping or tearing something. The virtual test is risk free. AND they give you a read out of your entire mid section From the neck down.. They told me my lungs were clear no polyp's in my colon but also found a few minor things elsewhere in my body. If the medical community thinks this test is a good alternative for the president of the US then I go with that.

Cool. Have fun doing the prep (the hard part).
After they find a polyp and ask you to do the prep again (the hard part) for your upcoming colonoscopy we will see if your opinion is the same.

LOL, Maybe in a fantasy world there is a GI doc & anesthesiologist just sitting & waiting outside radiology to scope you when the read comes back positive. (For the president maybe)

EDIT: 3% risk of ripping or tearing? yeah that's what biopsies do. Whats the risk for perforation (not 3%)?

100% effective? I bet they didn't actually say that. "Virtual colonoscopy" is virtually a waste of time. If they find anything that looks abnormal, you get a real colonoscopy anyway. The only thing a virtual colonoscopy is 100% effective at is increasing radiology revenues.

Your missing the point. You don't have to prep again. You already prepped. And yea it sucks. If they see something they remove it on the spot right then and there.. Yes the medical building is staffed so the doctors are there. Maybe 1-1/2 in ten have polyp's, the rest go home. The CT-Scan techs are actually freeing up the DR's time here. The medical place I went to has a large staff of Doctors there all the while they are open.

You know what the major plus is. They didn't have to probe me. Plus I got a very detailed report.

I wouldn't. They are not as accurate, if they find polyps you'll have to have a colonoscopy/re-do the prep (worst part) and colonoscopies are way easier than people make them out to be. I've had stage IV colon cancer so I've had plenty of them.

To the OP, yes you'll pass a lot of gas after but you'll be out of it from the propofol like the guy in the video. It's pretty funny sitting in a room with a bunch of people passing gas and everyone being completely out of it. I'm always afraid of what I'll say when they put me under, especially since my doctor is pretty attractive

Not always, in many places you have to re-prep and come back the next day. Virtual colonoscopy effectiveness is detection of 90% of polyps over a certain size but that number drops dramatically for smaller polyps. Is the test effective? Yes, but to say it is as accurate as an actual colonoscopy is false.

A CT scan missed my stage IV cancer, I personally prefer the most accurate test possible.

Maybe.  I do remember the IV stuff kicking my ass.  I remember them injecting into the IV, feeling like I was drunk about 30 seconds later, then waking up in recovery.  That was pretty awesome.

As for the after effects, I don't remember the actual fart but I do remember the nurse's reaction.  She told me I needed to "pass gas" before I could get something to drink then she left the room.  I remember hearing her yell "sounds like somebody's thirsty!" from down the hall.

Well I'm not going to argue with that. You have more experience here. I'll leave just saying that I was told by the medical profesionals there that the virtual are 100% just as accurate. They gave me the choice traditional colonoscopy or virtual. I made my choice.

My first one was a few years ago.  The recovery room was just a big room with those curtains on a frame with wheels that allows them to be configured however they need to, in the room.

you won't give a rip when you are waking up and everyone else within an ear's reach is ripping them as loud as you are.

i had one a few months ago. i had the nurses rolling laughing because the guy next to me was trying to let one go and couldn't. he kept crying out he couldn't … he couldn't .. he just couldn't. finally after hearing him whine about it I hollered out to him … hey buddy, just grab the side rail on the bed and let her rip.

about ten seconds later he let the mother of all mother's fart. my reply back to him was  â€¦ that a boy .. do it again buddy!!

all the nurses were cracking up and the wife uint was laughing so hard she was crying.

The drinking all of the "stuff" was the worst part.  I only barfed once.  The actual procedure is nothing.  My prep had some anti gass stuff added and I had no issues, not that I remember anything.  My report said "good prep", and that's what you want.  They sniped a 2mm and a 3mm polyp out and said see you in five years.
