I dont know anything about 1911 sights. Where can I get some standard sights for it?
Before anybody gets pissed. Its not mine and I would never let a firearm get into this kind of shape.

Gun is a family members and he got it from his grandpa. It had an adjustable Bo-Mar on the rear and it was broken so I removed it.

I cant fix the finish wear, but I can get a lot of the rust off. Most of its on the surface. At least it will get a little TLC while its with me.

Jeebu Kryst!  Send that beaten and battered 1911 to me, I have a shelter for abused guns.  That looks like it has the old Colt Satin Nickel finish which practically rubs off.  "Standard" rear sights won't work with that high profile front which was designed to work with the high mount Bomar you took off.  Unless you can find a rediculously high rear, your going to need a new front.  Its a great pistol, but its going to need some work.  How much you want for it?

It looks like the red plastic on the front sight is cracked, you might as well just get an entire new set of sights.  I don't know that much about 1911's, so I'll let someone else recommend sights for you.

If it were me, I'd buy all new internals, have the frame, slide, and barrel resurfaced, and completely overhaul the poor thing.
I dont have a recommendation on sights for that profile...sure you can find plenty of suggestions in either the 1911 or Colt forums.

Enjoy your project

Get on Bob Miller's waiting list and see if he can resurrect it with new sights, internals, and finish.  I'm far from a 1911 expert, but suspect that gun has been neglected to the point that it deserves a complete rebuild.  I've got a Commander that he did that is very nice.

Not as bad as I thought. It is nickel finish and really needs more then I can give it, but he wont sell it.
He wants a new front and rear sight set. With the front being staked on I dont know what to look for.

Millet sells sight sets that are good and fairly cheap. I have a set on my Commander.

Use http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=20613/Product/SUPER_STRIP_trade

and then send it to http://www.novaksights.com/index.htm and ask them to refinish it while it's there to have the sights installed. I had them bead blast blue my Officer's ACP slide, after they machined and installed a new set of sights.

Bo-Mar is out of business, so good luck finding a BMCS to replace that one. STI, Caspian, and a few other companies have a BMCS style rear that should drop right in.

Shit . That old dog is starting to show some character .

Flip the side and pop out the front sight . Measure the stud sticking off it and that will tell you what size ya need .

Personally I would just clean the surface rust off , oil her up and leave her be .
It is a pistol not a switch watch . If it works and goes bang , who gives a shit how it looks ?

Ewwwww...that's nasty.

Thank god he got it to someone who will resurrect it before it's too late.
I've got a commander just like that....great gun. That one will be too when
you get it done.

Kodiak-AK I dont think it did. I couldnt see that rust until I took that pic. Once I get the sights and some new grips for it I am going to make sure the owner shoots it and then clean the barrel really good after a few mags.

At best I would probably replace the mainspring if it pitted . Of course the sights , and than I would probably call it good as a carry/ truck gun .

Kings or Yost "old skool" if you want the retro look, Heinie Slant-pro if you want modern sights.

The Heinie's are superior to the Novak lo-mount.

Its odd, but the mainspring, firing pin spring, firing pin and the extractor were all in really good condition after cleaning them up.
Not sure but I think this is the first time I have detail stripped a 1911. I have taken lots of guns apart. The grip safety and all the trigger components are pretty interesting. It was fun while it lasted. May call local gun shop tomorrow and see if they have any grips and sights.

I think it would have been cleaner if it was retrieved from a pond.

That looks to be carried alot and not shot at all..considering the lint behind the grip safety.

Great candidate for a complete rebuild...I would have to get my hands on it...

because they get rusty in there or the criminals dont take care of their guns?

Probably the latter.  Most guns that I have seized or seen seized from street thugs look like they are kept under a bush in the neighbors yard.  They probably were a time or two.

Also, this is a tag for home so I can see the pictures.

OP, someone makes a fixed rear sight that fits the Bomar cut.  I just can't remember who it is right now.

Found it.

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26360/Product/1911_AUTO_HD_001_REAR_SIGHT

Edit for the edit.  It was a high mount Bomar(can't see the pictures at work).

I would use the Yost retro rear with the appropriate size front.

Perfect gun for a carry peice, not like you have to worry about nicking the finish.

you might try running the parts through a blast cabinet, with the real fine glass media, and start with a with low pressure, bet things will clean right up, and then gun coat it, to seal the metal back up

have cleaned up a good many things that way, that looked terrible at first,

good luck

Are you sure it was a Bomar sight not a millet one? ,that front sight looks a lot like the millet one that was used with this rear sight.

Honestly it is one of the more elegant things in the world .
The way the pieces fit together just so .
JMB did this one right for sure .

A little bit of both.
