Okay, so here is my dilemma, 5 years ago I saved up and went out with my first real paycheck, and bought a Colt 1911 (WWI 1918 repro). This was my first 1911 and I didn't know shit about them. In fact, I knew so little about them, that I did not notice the slide serrations were on fucking backwards! So, after figuring this out I was pissed at Colt, pissed at myself and just generally pissed. Pistol shoots just fine, had no problems with her to this day. The only thing is the slide feels ass-backwards. I have been tempted to send it back to Colt several times, and have never pulled the trigger on it. My buddy, who I trust - advised me I would be better off keeping it as is, because it is not just a reproduction WW1 1911 one of 4000, but it is now even more rare.....like my pistol is now some kind of upside down airplane stamp or something right
So do yall have any thoughts ----- Leave it as is OR Send it back to Colt? thanks and here are pics. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a483/DwayneHicks100/photo3_zps2e03a47c.jpg http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a483/DwayneHicks100/photo_zpscba9bbbb.jpg http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a483/DwayneHicks100/photo2_zpsb3935f70.jpg |

And I hate to tell you this, but yours is just one of MANY that came that way, so it's not even that rare. It was a well documented FUBAR at the factory. I had one with the same issue, sent it back to get it fixed. Never looked back, slide is actually better fit now. Just get it fixed.
I actually have three of these, one is the carbonia blue version, and they are all great guns. One just happened to be born a retard. |

Looks like Colt wasn't the only one cutting corners... Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Are you implying I should have done my homework before buying the pistol??? If so, yeah I acknowledge that.....

I saw another thread with this same thing. Not sure if it was here or another forum, or how it was resolved.
You might Google it and see if you can find it and how it turned out. There was some discussion about other folks wanting that piece as a collectors item since it was an uncommon error and rare (maybe?). |

I appreciate it a lot. Was Colt quick to respond and get it back to you? I assume they did not make you pay anything? |

I'm sure it took them some time to find a good slide-fit and get it all finished and matched. I was happy. |

I'd send it back, but tell them I want the incorrect slide back as well. Worth a try. I came here to post this exactly. In the event they are rare, or made so by guys sending theirs in to be fixed, you'll at least have the original "limited edition" slide for it. 50 years from now it might have extra value. |

Colt's machinery is antiquated. I'll never buy a gun from them. Nothing could be further from the truth, but hey that's more Colt's for the rest of us. ![]() Oh, now ... Colt is still operating overhead line shafts to run their ancient old pre 1900 lathes. I heard they buy up all the shapers they can find because they're cheap and fun to rebuild, plus there's a certain panache' in quantity, not to mention rows of shapers in motion, the head moving back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, for hours on end; they're almost hypnotic. There's a kid in the shop whose sole job is keeping all the lanterns full of kerosene, Colt refuses to plumb for natural gas to burn in the lights. |

Should have bought a 70 Series. Besides who the hell grabs it back there to rack the side. My hand is always mid or slightly forwardOh you put it over the ejection port? On a 5" 1911 I can place my palm on top of the slide between the ejection port and the front sight. Thumb runs the opposite side of the port and rests on the rear serrations. That would be an awesome shop tour if it were true. |

I had one like that too.
I sent it back to Colt and they fucked it up worse. Sent it back again and got a different one that was just as fucked up but different. Sold it on GB. Bought another one that turned out to be fucked up too. Colt said they would not fix it or honor the warranty because it was too old. I told them that I just bought it brand new from a gun shop. They told me to fuck off, so I promised to run them down all over the internet every time I got a chance. So I'm here to deliver. So FUCK Colt handguns. And everyone who works there. And that cock sucker service guy Brent who kisses ass on the internet forums. |

| My O1911 shipped with a mismarked brown box from Colt for a O1911A1 reproduction. Brent hooked me up last month with a new brown box. It is unmarked, but better than having the mismarked brown box. Keep in mind the O1911 has been out of production for ten years, so I was happy to have been hooked up. |

And that cock sucker service guy Brent who kisses ass on the internet forums. I know that feel. When I sent my Delta in the first time, they tried to void the warranty over my FLGR, and 23# recoil spring. I told them to send it back, and upon inspecting it at the shop where it was sent back somebody managed to break off the rear sight blade after it had been carefully wrapped in plastic for shipping. Now that I was really upset, I sent it back again, and they replaced the slide and barrel (because, surprise, it still bulged cases with the factory garbage double spring setup.) and then Brent installed a set of night sights for free to cover the broken stock sight blade. However, while it was there, they didn't polish up the back side of the slide stop, or polish out the marks from it on the frame from about 200 rounds worth of ammo ran through it.
"Quality makes it a Colt."
ETA: It will still bulge the cases of a "hot" 10 mm load, but not for factory ammo like it used to. Gun is now a safe queen until I decide to either sell it, or have a full ramped barrel installed. |
