What kind of scratch marks? Are they deep or shallow? Going vertically or horizontally? To be honest, you'll probably have better luck with this question over in the 1911 forums. Not that you're not welcome here, of course, but the 1911 experts in the 1911 forums are absoultey TOP NOTCH! More than a few gunsmiths over there, and I haven't had a question yet they couldn't walk me through. They'll probably recommend a certain brand of rubbing compound (I can't remember the name, but it is specifically made for firearms) - and a WHOLE lot of patience. You just use the rubbing compound and a lint free rag in circular motions with VERY light pressure until the scratches are removed. Then you go to a finer grade rubbing compound and repeat. Then again with an even finer grade. It really depends on how deep the scratches are. You should get some pictures and post them up with your question over there, and someone can tell you EXACTLY what you need to do and what type and grade of compound to go with. I'm telling you, man, those guys are the shiznit! Good luck, bro! |
