I just want to get a few HPT/MPI bolts as spares. I can buy a complete BCG for $80 while just the bolt itself costs the same or more?

What am I missing?

Those aren’t HPT’d, aren’t C158, and the bolt is nitrided which doesn’t interest me.

I’m referring to a mil-spec BCG for $80.

Just buy the whole thing. That’s what I do.

I get a spare carrier, cam pin, retaining pin, and a firing pin so I can l shave it down to make it go brrrrrrrt…

Economy of scale and market demand.

Very very people just buying an AR bolt compared to a complete BCG.

This makes the most sense I guess. I'm with OP though. With the price of metal so high it would be nice to be able to buy bolt assemblies sans carrier for a bit cheaper.

Of course it does take a lot more machining to make bolt. I'm sure it's more than a carrier and C158 costs more.

So . . . just buy the complete BCG for a decent price and then you have an extra carrier, too. Not really seeing the issue here for the amount of $$$ involved.

Sometimes you'll pay more than you want for part of a product group than the whole thing. That's not exclusive to firearms.

That’s what I’ll probably end up doing as I’ve done that in the past. I just have way too many spare carriers sitting around that I’ll never use.

I just like having a spare bolt, firing pin, cam pin, set of gas rings, and a couple of firing pin retaining pins in the grip of my rifles.
