What is a usedd commputer worth?  I am trying to decide what to do with my old one.

HP pavilion 9870
1.3 Ghz Pentium 4
128 Mb ram
60 G hd
DVD
CD-RW
Windows XP
HP mx90 monitor (upgrade about 17" i think)
HP PSC750 printer

if this stuff isn't worth selling, what is a good use/charity for it?  I sure as hell ain't shipping it to anyone so if i do sell it would have to be face to face.

thats still a fairly good computer.

i dunno about how much it'll be worth, but you can make some decent bucks selling it. (as long as its in good order)

Unfortunately, virtually nothing. Either donate it to a charity (School, library) or use it as a secondary PC or file server.

Keep it and set it up for your kids or if you're interested install linux or one of the alternative operating systems.

Maybe $100 to someone who has never owned a PC before.

I had a 1.5GHZ with a 40 gig HD and 578 meg ram. DVD,CD-RW. No monitor
and I was told it was worth about  $100, so I just donated it to the abused womens shelter.

Hope that helps

+1

I've donated PCs before. Not only
are you helping someone out, but
you are able to realize a nice tax
deduction as well.

You could put together a new box with 2X the processor and 4X the memory for under $400, so figure maybe $100 for the machine.

The monitor is worth maybe $60 (assuming it's a CRT, not an LCD).

Printer, I don't know about your model.  I just got a new cheapo color inkjet one for $50.

Thanks guys.  You kind of supported what I suspected.  Your old computer is always worth almost nothing.

Now to find the right charity in my area.  And to make sure I got anything personal or naughty off the damn harddrive.

It's worth a lot when your new computer's hard drive dies and
you have to wait a week for a replacement part .

It is not worth a lot unless you don't have a computer. Find a relative or kid that can't afford to get a computer and set them up. I prefer this to donating to charity because I know the machine goes to someone who needs it.
