I have a decent PC (HPG70285),but it is loaded with Vista.
A lot of my programs/sites/security will no longer support Vista. Running IE9. Tried to load 10 and no go. Anyhow, skould I try to load Windows 8.1? I don't think I can make the jump from Vista to Windows 10. With the price of oil in the crapper, I've got to be a little frugal right now... just don't want to splurge on buying a new PC. Advice please! |

Run the WIn 8.1 update checker to make sure everything you have is compatible. Should be fine.
8.1 and 10 use less resources than Vista and 7 so it will make a difference. Small but will be there. Download Classic Shell and it will be no different except under the hood. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq |
| There are lots of good deals out there on computers. I don't know if you can upgrade to 10 for free or not from Vista. If you can't do it for free, then you have to buy a new OS anyways. I would not spend $100 for a new OS on that old of a computer. Especially when there is no guarantee that it will work smoothly. But check out techbargains.com. They always have good deals on really inexpensive computers. I posted this earlier when someone was looking for a laptop. |

Your vista computer has had a good run, time to upgrade. http://www.microcenter.com/product/457854/ProDesk_400_G3_Desktop_Computer |
