Looking to build a computer for "office work" mainly.
Uses would be surfing the net, paying bills Word, Excel, etc No gaming, probably pic storage Looking for a mid-range price build, not a cheapy. Thanks gents! |

I don't know your definition of midrange price, but for your needs you don't really need anything too extensive. An i3 or i5 processor will be more than enough for internet and office use, 8GB of RAM would be sufficient.
Wait until next week for black Friday deals and you should be able to piece something together for ~$400. |

My only suggestions are: get an SSD to run the OS and Office, and a second HDD for files, and get a video card that will allow you to use multiple monitors. Think 3 or 4 monitors. It makes work infinitely easier having multiple monitors on your desk.
I started using 2 monitors, but I figured out that I needed 3. My video card handled it, but 2 of the video outs are HDMI and the third is a VGA which took adapters and a bit of a hassle to make work correctly. Do yourself a favor and buy enough ports and capability for upgrades. |

I second the suggestion for 3 monitors, if you have space. I'd get 24" monitors, minimum, if you have the space I've even seen people set up with 2 horizontal, and one vertical, for documents. SSD is a must. Although, they are cheap enough, that I would suggest all SSD, except maybe for your pictures, if you are running out of space, you can get huge HDDs now, for pocket change. Don't forget a comfortable chair. Serta makes some reasonable ones that won't break the bank, but are fairly comfortable. And a chair mat for the floor, too! I have my computer on a 3 x 5 ft desk (table style) that I bought at a furniture store for a couple hundred bucks. Looks nice, and more importantly, I have room to work. |
