Kick ass system I bought 4 months ago.  Got home yesterday, pushed the power button, and nothing happens.  Nothing.  Its plugged into an APC UPS.  Everything else plugged into the UPS works. I tried plugging it into another outlet.  Called the tech support guys at the store I bought it.  He had me reset the BIOS using a jumper on the Motherboard.  Still nothing.

The odd thing is that the green LED on the MB is lit.  Turn off the power supply or unplug it and the LED goes out.  It has to be the power supply or the motherboard.

I ran a full system Norton scan the night before and it found nothing.  Is there a virus out that can touch the BIOS?

I am taking it to the store for them to fix because its still under warranty.
Here is my MoBo.

pull out the video card and any other PCI /AGP cards and see if it powers up.

Shoot it and start over.

I had the same problem. Mine turned out to be power supply. I borrowed a good PS from work to test and it worked fine.

Could be your switch? Try pulling the wires to your power switch and touch a screwdriver to both pins.

Let them fix it.

It could be that one voltage source is working but others are not, i.e. 3V is turning on the LED but the 5V is dead so the board isn't working.

Go to a local computer parts store and ask them about their return policy.  If you can return stuff no questions asked, then buy a new power supply (with proper rating).  Take it home, hook it up, see if that fixes it.  If not, return the power supply, then I guess buy a mobo.

Yes there is/was a virus that blanked your BIOS, it was called CIH.

Good idea!

it's the motherboard. My computer is doing EXACTLY that, and I've replace the powersupply and tried two others and it doesn't work. Something's fried.

unplug EVERYTHING. then plug it al back in. If you have a green LED on the MBchipset. You have power to the MB.

Your MB is probably toast.

Do you get any beeping?

Grab a hammer and a blowtorch.

check your memory.

If you have proper voltage from the PS at the connector(molex), and the box won't boot, mobo is the next suspect. You need a voltmeter to check the PS usually.

The CPU overheated and is now fried.

You won't know what it is until you fix it.

I know that sounds stupid but there is about a hundred things it could be.

It will most likely be the power supply.

    Other causes:

    Bad CD-ROM  /  CD-RW

    Fried modem

Seating of the memory sticks or AGP card as mentioned earlier.

Unplugging the power supply for 30 or so seconds works many times....

These are just some of the things that will cause a computer not to post.

There is some good knowledge on this board I'm sure someone will be glad to help

Do some digging yourself if your brave but don't get frustrated thinking your computer is toast.

Let me know if I can help.

Usually I build a computer myself.  But I prced the computer I wanted and went to a computer show.  These guys let me customize a bare bones and they put it together for me for about the same price to build myself.

The good thing is that the gave my a 1 year warranty.  SO they have to fix it and pay for the new parts.

The other good thing is there are several gun shops near where their computer shop is.

I am just wondering if its going to be a PS that can be switched out in 10 min, or somthing they might need to hold it overnight for.

Going the whole weekend without ARFCOM scares me.

Do you have a DVM??

If you do, unplug the large power plug that goes to the motherboard.   You'll see a green wire.  Short this wire ,with a paperclip or something similar, to the black (gnd) wire next to it.   So you'll end up with a paperclip shorting between the green wire and the black wire.   This will allow your power supply to turn on if it's not plugged into the motherboard.   Turn the power supply on and check the voltage levels at the red, yellow and orange wires, referenced to gnd.

you should have

+5V
+3.3V
+12V

I had this EXACT problem awhile back and it was my +12V rail that was only delivering +11.1V.

If you don't have a DVM or don't want to hassle doing all this, go get another power supply and plug that into your mobo and see of it fires up.

good luck.
