I got my wife a new laptop for her birthday a while back. It seems any page that takes more than 15 seconds or so to load will time out and get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message and the button to diagnose connection issues. The trouble shooter never finds an issue and I can load the same pages on my laptop.
The computers both connect wirelessly to the same router and are equidistant from it. She has Windows 7, mine is Windows Vista. We're both on IE8. Anyone have any ideas (other than switch to Firefox)? |

Switch to Chrome? What antivirus are you running on the slow-time machine? Are you getting the same ping times from both machines, to sites like Yahoo? Are you connecting with the same speed wireless? Is your router set to give priority to one device? Just some things to check. |

Check the manufactures website for any updates to divers. Mainly network/wireless drivers.
Do you see the same results in Firefox or Chrome? If one or both work, fuck IE and switch. Who is your internet service provider? (If you have hughesnet...I give up) Download and run Malwarebytes just to be safe. (Link is to filehippo) |

What anti-virus are you running?
I was using Windows Security Essentials with real time monitoring enabled. It took FOREVER to load a page. I disabled the real time monitoring and now life is better. Also, don't try running more than one anti-virus at a time. It messes things up. |

Check internet options and see if the browser is trying to connect through a proxy server... saw this happen before...
If you have a broadband connection and it is somewhat normal to have sites take 15 seconds or so to load you might have a setup problem with your network or your ISP is ripping you off terrible |

To answer some of the questions:
Router is a Linksys WRT54G. Running Malwarebytes and MS Security Essentials. I disabled real time protection on the MS program and it sped things up a little. Doesn't fix problem though. Haven't tried other browsers, don't really want to install any others. I tried FireFox for a while on my other machine. Didn't care for it. Pings are similar on both. Both show connected (to the router) at 54mbps, I have ComCast paying for 12mbps, speedtest.net shows a >17mbps speed on both. Router has no priority but I turned mine off just to be sure, no change in issue. Not running on a proxy (first thing I checked after being hit by some nasty viruses a while back). Good for cookies. It's not all sites that it happens on, just some. I've noticed it before but tonight I was looking at a motorcycle site and it happened again. Finally decided to try and fix it. I was looking at helmets and it would load a page with 15 listings but I got it when trying to load all listings (129 listings). My computer does it just fine. ETA: My router doesn't do IPv6. This computer was trying to connect on it at startup and discovery. I disabled it but no change other than it discovers and comes on line faster. |
