I'm not super tech savy but I can muddle through most of the time. On my MAME machine running XP I keep getting the  Security Alert pictured below. It's annoying when your in the middle of a game as it takes precedence over what the computer is performing at the time. I need to figure out how and where to disable it. By reading the certificate it has something to do with JAVA. I've tried to turn the Java crap off but I off but haven't had any luck getting rid of the annoyance. Any help would be appreciated.

Either update your Java, or uninstall it.  (I don't know if MAME needs Java or not, do some Googling and find out.)

Java has had a mass of security problems recently.  It should be viewed as a rabid pit bull in your living room.  Only deal with it if you have to and know how.

Chances are, Comodo revoked the security certificate for the download, or Oracle messed up their update service.  It's also possible you are infected and the infection is trying to block the ability to fix holes.

Once you are are done uninstalling, delete the folders and delete the services it may be running.

Never look back.  It's crap, it's done.

Is it JAVA or JAVA Scripts the that box is talking about?

Java.  Java and JavaScript are completely distinct and separate languages.  The cert says "Oracle" on it, so it's Java.

I uninstalled JAVA with the Remove Programs Function. There is still 1 program that says JAVA 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.42_03 do I need to remove it also?

Why not install the cert. Do you trust the site/app that wants to use it? If you do trust the site then just install it?

I've tried repeatedly to install the cert but the security alert keeps coming back regardless of what I do.

If it's a windows XP box, the cert might have gotten revoked (in which case it won't ever work, by design).

Yes, get rid of everything Java.  ALL OF IT.

It's easy enough to get again if you find you need it for something.  In the mean time, it's not on the "safe computing" list right now.

Haven't had any problems since I removed Java but I removed Java Runtime just in case.

Glad you got it working. I would've suggested scanning and removing every instance of the JRE as well.

Only 1.7 is at issue. You should be fine with a 1.5 or 1.6 JRE.
