Need help with girlfriends computer.  For a while now it has been restarting itself. Now, it just shuts down and when we try to restart it, it beeps and shuts down.  The beeps are a continuous high-low sounds.  I have read that this means the processors are getting too hot.  If we let it sit off for ten minutes it will start and run for a few minutes and then shut down again. We installed Speedfan and the the temps are reading -6F for both processors and 90F on the HD.  Today it was off all day and just a few seconds after starting it the processor temps were 181F and 201F.

Anyone know what is going on?  Any way to disable the temp sensors?  There is nothing inside that is even too hot to touch.

i asume you did but clean out the inside with compressed air or that spray can stuff...sounds like EXACTLY how my computer was acting, then i took it apart cleaned out the dust and its fixed.

if nothing is hot then mabey go ahead and disable the sensors...try finding them in the bios settings right when you turn it on...

open the machine back up and make sure that the fan is still attached to CPU.... is need to you may need to get some more thermal paste and see if that helps...

Second how old is the machine....

It is about two years old.  Built for her by a friend, Intel DG965WH motherboard.  We will try the thermal past tomorrow. Thanks

I advise against disabling the sensors.

Do you really want to start a house fire?

Are the cooling fans spinning?

You could also check the bios and make sure the cpu is not overclocked.  If it is, reset it to what the cpu is supposed to run at.

If the cpu is set properly, and the cpu fan is actually working than I would remove the cpu fan/heat sink and apply new thermal paste.  Clean the old paste off with denatured alcohol or rubbing alcohol.  You don't need gobs of new thermal paste either, just a small dab will do.  It will spread out when you clamp the heat sink back down.

Edit : stupid typo.

thanks for the replies.  All the fans are working and the cpu is running at normal speed. We bought some thermal paste and another fan.  We will give it a try and see if it works.

sounds like an over heating problem, more likely the cpu.
