I hope this sort of question is acceptable here, but I recently decided to try my hand at building a computer. Unfortunately, it restarts without warning and without a BSOD when playing Minecraft.

I have very limited knowledge about this stuff, but my guesses are heat, power supply, and RAM in that order. Any help would be great.

Specs:
AMD A10-5800K
Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H
G.Skill Ripjaws X series 2 x 2gb DDR3 1866
Rosewill 400w power supply

I was planning on getting a new cooler, at some point and try some minor overclocking. If the problem is heat, I figured I'd go ahead and get a cooler now, and if that didn't help I'd get a better quality power supply. I don't know much about this stuff, but I did read something about ram being unstable at certain frequencies, so I thought I might try some ram at 1600MHz.

I am using the integrated graphics right now. I don't know if it would help or hurt to get a video card, but I'm not opposed to it.

Thanks again for any input.

That short but pithy statement sums it up quite nicely.
Check your connections. They *could* be loose. More likely, the power supply needs replacement.

A random reboot, especially under any sort of load, is usually a bad PSU or not enough power.

A random shut down is usually temperature related.

I appreciate the replies. I've ordered what I think will be a more adequate power supply. Thanks.

If the power supply doesn't fix the issue, try setting it to show you the BSOD rather than just restart.

You can get the error message that way.

Power supply is the first thing I would replace.

Also, I'm not sure what the actual part number for your ram is but double check to see if it is on the supported memory list for that motherboard.

I actually tried this, but it still didn't give me the BSOD. I'll double check it though, thanks.

I'll check that.

I appreciate everyone's help with this. New power supply seems to have solved the problem.
