Just thinking . . .
To derail this government, what if 70 million working conservatives suddenly claimed 10 dependants on their W-2 form and withheld less income tax per paycheck? Would that hurt this socialist experiment? I bet we could shut it down in a couple of months . . . |

Instead of spending the next 4 years protesting and being negative the conservatives should stop blaming everyone else for their problems and work on rebuilding the party. What party? You sure aren't talking about the Republican party if you're talking conservative. |

What if you went to jail Bet you would shut down in a day Its legal. Back in the day when I had a $2200 mortgage we claimed 7 and received an extra $550 a month take home to help make the payment. Essentially you are just getting your refund monthly anyway. |

How many were actually in your family? If just you and the wife and a kid or 2, you must have had to pay back a shit load at tax time. I'd rather break even or get a little bit of a rebate then have to write a check for a couple grand.

I proposed something similar here: Link
It's a "W4" form at your workplace to file those changes, and it's called a "withholding exemption". All it does is change the income amount that is withheld in your paychecks. You can let the govt hold your money all year, or you can keep it and pay it when you file your tax return. The total amount of income taxes you owe for the work year is the same regardless of the withholding exemptions that you claim. here's an example, and these numbers aren't accurate because I don't want to take the time researching the income tax tables: Let's say you make $50K a year and your total federal income tax liability after deductions is $6000. If you claim "0" W4 exemptions, you'll pay in $7500 throughout the year and get a $1500 refund. If you claim "5" W4 exemptions, you'll pay in $4000 throughout the year and owe $2000 on April 15th. The total tax liability is still $6000 regardless. |

<Ignoring the moron>
You could place the extra money each month in a money market account and earn interest on the withholding. $1000 of taxes in the bank could earn enough for dinner out. The .gov would not get paid until April 15. If enough people did it, it would throw the Treasury off because they have to make interest payments at least monthly. |

You sure aren't talking about the Republican party if you're talking conservative. That is exactly what I mean about it having to be rebuilt. I almost put "conservatives" in quotes because conservatives no longer fit into the the Republican party. There was a news article yesterday called "Obamamania hasn't reached Wyoming". http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/20/wyoming.gop.inauguration/ It is about real Republicans. Here is a small part of it. Mueller and a handful of other Republicans sit in the coffee shop of the historic Plains Hotel on this windy January morning, chatting about the incoming administration and their mixed feelings. These are back-to-basic Republicans. They want small government, strong national defense and an emphasis on individual liberties and accountability. Surely there has to be more people who actually believe in these same values then us crazy gun nuts and a few old hicks in Wyoming. CNN calls it "back-to-basic" Republicans. How do we start taking back the party? |

Ask me how I know. |

That's what the Founding Fathers said, when a full 2/3 of their country didn't believe in their cause of want any part of a revolution. "We are FUCKED", one of Thomas Paine's more moving quotes. Hey, did you ever get the feeling you're a lousy American? You should. |
