I bought a bottle of cooking wine tonight to go in a dish I was making. I noticed on the label it is 12% alcohol.

I wondered how that compared to beer so I went here http://www.realbeer.com/edu/health/calories.php.
Notice that beers range from 3.4% to 10% alcohol. So this stuff is stronger than beer.

No license is required to sell cooking wine, and anyone can but it regardless of age. So why do you have to have a license to sell beer and why do you have to be a certain age to buy beer?

Yes I did try the cooking wine.

It is so damn salty that it is unpalatable (to most folks). I have seen bad drunks drink mouth wash that is essentially 90 proof and no licenses is required to sell Listerine. At least that guy's vomit didn't stink!

I've never used it or tried it but if that's true then that's why.

I don't know why they can sell it to anybody, but cooking wine SUCKS!!

Only cook with a wine you would drink.

Your going to taste it in the dish. So, why not use something you like.

Find a inexpensive, good tasting wine, and buy two bottles. One to cook with, and one to drink.

Monthaven is a Cali vinyard, very hood stuff. About $12.

It least Thunderbird can be improved with a package of Kool-Aid.

Shoplift a can of Lysol, punch a hole in it to depressurize, pour into bucket and mix with Kool-Aid.
Very popular on the rez.

What the hell are you calling cooking wine?

I've never taken a sip of the wine that I have used for cooking and thought "Nasty, I can't wait to put this in my food."

Try your recipe twice; side by side, one with that cooking wine and one with some wine from the liquor store, and see which one tastes better. The cooking wine is some crap that never could have sold as a beverage with flavor additives to try to make it taste like wine, and salt and preservatives so that the stuff won't go bad after you open it.

I don't drink wine, so what I do is keep a box of red and a box of white for cooking. The stuff in a box will last a long time without spoiling. You don't need to spend a ton o cash , I buy Almaden or Gallo.
