Way cool. Nothing pops out, not annoying screams, just a cool optical illusion.

HAHA! I checked it myself just to be sure after I watched it. They're telling the truth. If you look away and look back the color image that you paused will be black and white.

It always changes at the same place in the play sequence.

I paused it both before and after it changes. Once it is paused (either before or after changing) it stays at what ever it was paused at.

I have had it paused on the B&W image for a few minutes now while writing this reply (and I type slooow). When I click over to it, guess what!!? It's still B&W.

I'll be happy to graciously accept your apology for the "chucklehead" remark.

That's cool. It worked perfectly for several seconds for me. And for those who try it, it's a perceived COLOR change, not the fact that the castle appears.

Great illusion. Glad there was no demon jumping and screaming in my face when watching it.

Very interesting.  If you stare only at the dot after it switches to black and white it stays color for the rest of the film.  If you even take your eyes off of the dot just a little it goes black and white, and when you look back again it's in color again.

it is a b&w picture there vic, but for most they see an optival illusion caused by color saturation from the first image. it seems that in order for it to work though, the viewer's iq has to more than single digits.

oh, you can stop looking at it, it is not going to change, while you are at it, you can close this thread too, no one is going to say sowwy.

Very cool.  I sure didn't know that the brain would retain colors in that way.
6/9/2006 6:49:11 PM EDT
[#35]
The first image fatigues the color receptors in your eyes for the colors that are NOT needed in the final image.  After looking at it for some time the signal strength to your brain becomes weak because your photoreceptors are "tired".  When the B&W castle appears, it appears to be in color because your eyes try to send a neutral balanced signal to your brain, but they send a "lopsided" signal instead becuase the original receptors cannot fire at full strength.

BS.

after it's done playing, move the timer thing and you can clearly see it changes at the same point each time when you manually fast forwrd it.

edit-from reading responses it seems like there's two versions or something. one mine, i was skeptical so i paused it a few secs in and watched, nothing, then i manually fast forwarded the video and no matter the speed it changes colors and the same point each time in the film. it's bs. maybe some of us are looking at different versions or something. rewinding thr video clearly shows this to be a total joke.

EDIT #2- i'm a total dumbass, i see what's going on now. i was thinking we were looking for something else. i guess i need some serious sleep.

It's supposed to change you idiots!  The castle image is black and white, but if you stare at the color negative of it, AT THE LITTLE BLACK DOT, and don't move your eyes when it switches from the color negative to the black and white photo of the castle, it appears to be a color image

+1 on cool.

Been working all day and I'm just beat, I had to watch it twice because I thought it really was in color.  Yeah, I hit 'mute' as well!  Fearless

thanks for clearing this up, the previous 25 or so posts that say the same thing were a little vague.

You better look again man. It really works. I can see color if I keep my eyes focused on the same spot on the screen (BTW, it woeks best in fullscreen mode). If I move my focus to another place it immediately goes B&w. I can go back and forth between color and b&w even on pause. I tried different focus points, including on the edge of the screen and it works the same. It must have something to do with burning the reverse color on your retina and causing the color when removed. Very cool trick.
