Police: Officer shoots man who drags him across York Road

Towson - Baltimore County police say a man is facing charges after he dragged a police officer across York Road in Towson and was shot by the officer.

Police spokesman Bill Toohey says 27-year-old Officer Andrew Carns stopped a van as it was leaving the parking lot of the York Road Plaza shopping center, near the Baltimore city line. It's not clear why the officer stopped the van.

As Carns leaned into the van, the driver took off, with Carns stuck to the vehicle somehow.

Toohey says the van dragged Carns across York Road into the parking lot of another shopping center, at which point Carns was able to fire one shot, hitting the van driver in the shoulder.

He freed himself from the van, which sped off into the city. It was found a short time later, parked outside a home in northeast Baltimore, and the driver was found inside the home, bleeding heavily from the gunshot wound.

The driver was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the officer was taken to Sinai Hospital. Toohey says the officer was suffered severe scrapes and bruises and a swollen ankle. He'll be released this evening.

Stupid, stupid, stupid! Don't lean into the vehicle, dont reach into the vehicle.
